Sample, thanks fonefan! Near black, small head. Aroma of tonka beans, coffee, tonka beans and tonka beans. Very sweet with full body and rounded mouthfeel. Caramel and marzipan, chocolate. The just tonka beans that lasts forever, well into the intensely warming finish. Another good beer spoiled by overusage of tonka beans

Bottle 330ml. @ home. 🏡🇩🇰 💻👀
[ As Atrium Juruá ].
ABV: 13.0%. Clear dark dark brown colour with a small, fizzy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, dark malt, chocolate, perfume, moderate yeasty, to me a bit artificial, vanilla, tonka. Flavor is light heavy sweet and moderate bitter with a long duration, chocolate, dark malt, yeast, tonka, perfume, tonka peel, medium dry, wood - peel touch, unbalanced. Body is medium to full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft, finish feel is warming and light alcoholic. [20210710]

Bouteille 33cl, BB 04/2026, lot# L015/21.

New stout by this ‘Belgo-Brazilian’ craft brewery, using Brazilian tonka beans, not the first time this aromatic ingredient is used in beer, of course. Yellowish beige, moussy, small-bubbled head on a black beer with thin burgundy edge. Aroma of indeed tonka beans and quite extremely so, diverging towards almond or even marzipan, nougat, coconut, also hazelnut paste, chocolate crisps, cinnamon ark, melting brown sugar, cold coffee with milk, toffee, blood-like iron, vague spicy note of black pepper or even juniper berry. Sweet onset, candied dates, brown sugar even, softishly carbonated with a full, creamy mouthfeel but not over-the-top syrupy; toffeeish, hazelnutty and nougat-like layers of malts, sugars and tonka bean, milk-chocolatey too, all hugely aromatized by the tonka, with all that almond, coconut and spiced cookie returning retronasally – quite overwhelmingly so. Warming, rum-like alcohol in the tail, alongside lingering toffeeish, sugared-coffee- and chocolate-like core flavours, still bathing in that desserty tonka bean aroma. If you have a friend who is not into craft beer and does not know what tonka bean is, give him this – but Valéry did manage to keep it relatively simple and drinkable in spite of the impressive ABV, so this is actually more accessible than it may seem. Lovely pastry stout – of sorts.
