22 oz bottle poured. Pours cola like, dark brown with a fizzy off white head. Hop forward aroma. Flavor is just the opposite with a heavy malt, slight spice, light smoke, and caramel. A lot of different flavors going on here. Hops come back late. Overall this is an interesting beer to me. Little surprised to see the strong ale tag on a beer under 7%, but I don’t make the rules, nor do I usually understand them. No matter what it is, I enjoyed this beer.

Bomber at Imazato. Almost black, cloudy, low head, lacy. Medium smoke in the nose, more chocolate, caramel. Nice, rich, chewy malt nose. Good chocolate flavors, medium smoke goes well with it, nicely rich and chewy. Dig it. A bit light in body, but it works.

Lompoc Special Draft A dark molasses pour in a mason jar. The aroma is citrusy grapefruit hops & malty caramel - somewhat American Barleywine like. Very pithy grapefruit flavor with light fudge malt character. Fairly light bodied but overall it’s decent. This was such a bizarre beer that was hard to categorize, finally I just called it an Imperial Brown Ale. good but disjointed.

Sampled as ’Lompoc Special Draft’ Deep dark brown coloured body with a touch of violet showing through at the bottom when held up to a light and a thin, one centimetre tall brown head. Aroma of soy sauce, maple syrup, smoked peat, malt, raisins, earth and a bunch of nuts - very nice. Medium-bodied; Smokey flavour at first is strong and very flavourful with a lot of malt, earthiness, nuts, raisins, pit fruits and even some rye and specialty grain flavour there as well. Aftertaste shows some good sweetness, a hit of alcohol and a little earthy flavour that does well. Overall, a nice beer with a good flavour profile, nice complexity and a relatively smooth finish with some good sugars. Great to sample and a good one to bring back to wherever you live - assuming you aren’t from the area. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Belmont Station in Portland, Oregon on 12-April-2013 for US$4.15 sampled at home in Washington on 31-August-2013.
