Bottle from the Brewey tap, Cains Brewery. I can understand why this may not be to everyones taste, but I found this to be a great beer. Pours darkish ruddy amber. Raisins clearly evident in the aroma. Taste is full bodied, sweet for sure but not overpoweringly so. There is a really refreshing tang about this which gives way to a crisp lingering dry finish. Recommended la.

[i] [b] Can’t remember where this one came from, if it was from Ian Harrisoni (thanks) but equally I may have got it from Morrissons at Aylesbury so in that case thanks to me [/i] [/b]Amber in colour with some bubbles around the rim. Some sweet fruits on the nose. Found this to be just a bit tiresom had plenty of sweetness but it tasted artificial bit sacchriney, not much bitterness, in fact not much at all really chucked the last third of it away as became bored of it.

500ml bottle from Morrisons - "Official Beer - Liverpool - European Capital of Culture - 2008" Copper with a loose off-white head; sweet and spicy aroma; delicately fruity flavour - purple fruit - blackberry, damson, plum; then becoming sweet and vinous with a warming finish. Rather good.

Cask @ The Pommeler’s Rest, JDW, Southwark. Pours a slightly hazy dark amber color with a small off-white head. Fruity sweet raisin aroma. Sweetish malty raisin and dark fruit flavor. Has a long fruity raisin finish.

500ml bottle from Asda, Liverpool. Amber colour with thin beige head. Some plummy fruit aroma with an odd mix of hop on the finish. Bit too sweet in mouth. Finish is decent. Bit of candy sugar. Not a huge fan of this or the cask version either.

(Cask at Market Porter, Borough, London, 26 nov) Amber colour with foamy off-white head. Fruity nose with notes of dried fruit, caramel and ... raisins (surprise!). Fruity taste with notes of dried apricots, raisins, prunes and chocolate. Rather dry finish (thank you). Fairly nice brew with a raisin character that doesn’t dominate (luckily).

Cask at Doctor Duncan’s Liverpool. I wish people would stick with making beer that is beer flavoured (apart from some ginger beers that are nice). This just doesn’t do one thing or the other. Not fruity enough to be something like a kriek, and not got enough balance to carry it off. Shame as I love Cains
