COCOA EDITION. Almost black, diminishing mocha head with zero lacing. Dark sweet chocolate candies and tonka blending in with its toasted coconut like spice - pretty seamlessly so. A very light hint of alcool, quite clean overall. Tge chocolate is delicate - not overpowering. Similar taste - tonka flavored chocolate candies. Low roast and bitterness. There's a lightly astringent sweet and spicy note in the finish - which might make it feel less velvety than the Coffee edition, but almost no proper hops. Light alochilic heat. Pretty nicely flavoured low roast low hop impy. 3,7/5.
BASE BEER. Opaque deep brown, almost black, mocha head. Some phenolic / polyphenolic notes upfront - both boozy / peppery and harsh vegetal, dark sugars / treacle / licorice behind them. No roast / coffee / chocolate, not even fruity this time. It gets less aggressive with time, but stays hot until the end. The taste is low sweetness dark malts, some plums as it warms up, next to none roasty / chocolaty goodness. Spicy though not very hot warming alcohol and very low hop bitterness. It is actually not that bad, if you think of it as generic strong dark ale, rather than an impy. 3,3/5.
