Pours a clean mid to dark amber with a nice, quite fluffy white head; good retention and nice lacing. Quite good intensity in a nicely clean aroma: caramel malts with the slightest hint of nuttiness, average intense smoked notes (reminding mostly of speck/bacon). On the back, some floral hop notes and some kind of refreshing fruitiness where i can't pick anything specific. Taste shows relative intensity (relative per both style and franconian beers) in both sweetness and bitterness, with caramel malts and nuttiness and a not so timid floral hoppiness that also brings a semi-dry finish/aftertaste. Everything is overall well balanced, with average smoked malts intensity. Light to medium bodied, light to medium carbonation. Smooth and slightly silky, goes down super easy and feels somehow more refreshing than most rauchbiers. Very good.

500ml bottle. Clear, amber colour with average to huge, frothy, moderately lasting, minimally lacing, off-white head. Mildly smoky and caramel malty aroma, hints of smoked wood, a touch of wood ashes, minimally waxy, hoppy overtones. Taste is mildly smoky and minimally nutty, caramel malty, hints of smoked wood, some bitter hop. Oily texture, smooth and soft palate, medium to fine, mildly prickly carbonation. Well crafted, a tad simple - nice.

0.5 l bottle from 'Bierothek', best before January 2021. Clear, deep reddish amber with a medium large, foamy, almost stable, off-white head. Sweetish-malty, quite smoky aroma of caramel, smoked ham and some nuts. Gently sweet, malty, moderately bitter, quite smoky taste of caramel, smoked ham, some nuts and traces of raisins, followed by a short, slightly bitter, quite smoky and a little meaty finish. Medium body, smooth and slightly effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Pleasant Rauchbier, well-balanced and quaffable.
