Pale in colour with prominent hoppy palate and full flavoured finish, Golden Newt is a pale session bitter of 4.1% ABV cask and 4.6% ABV in bottle.
The beer has a prominent hop character; a blend of Fuggles, Goldings and Cascade has been used in the recipe to bring the delicate hop flavour and aroma to the fore. The use of Cascade gives a pleasing citrus aroma.
Finest pale Maris Otter malt has been used to provide a full flavoured beer. The lavish use of late hop dominates the malt flavour and results in a satisfying pint.

Cask at the moon under water Watford Jdw. A clear pale gold yellow coloured pour with a lasting uniform white head. Aroma is green straw, grass, sileage, grassy hop. Palate is semi sweet decent cask condition. Flavour is composed of semi sweet, rustic fresh green grains, straw, grass, hedgerow hop, firm grassy bitterness. Goes down pretty easy.

Cask at the Back of Beyond (JDW), Reading. Mid gold colour with a white head. Had this straight after JW Lees Gold, and whilst they're quite similar this one seemed rather insipid in comparison. There's some floral notes, a wisp of lemon and some white bread. It's inoffensive at best, but tending towards the thin and bland.

Bottle from Beers of Europe, online. Pours a dark clear gold, small white head, modest retention. Aroma of pale malts, an odd rhubarb and custard note, floral with light spice. Interesting. Taste also has a fruity rhubarb note with a biscuit malt base, a bit over filtered and tinny in the middle but some nice floral and spice notes in the finish with a moderate bitterness. Light bodied but fairly smooth with a high lager like carbonation. Mixed but on balance I quite like it.

[Cask at the Back of Beyond (JDW), Reading.] A bright amber pour with a tight cream head; citrusy aroma; smooth in the mouth with a grainy body and citrus taste; then a sharp pithy grapefruit bitterness; and a lingering bitter finish. Refreshing and satisfying.

Bottle online from Beers Of Europe. Pours a clear golden colour with a one finger creamy white head. Aromas of floral, bread, biscuits, citrus and caramel. Taste has more citrus, caramel, bread, biscuits and floral. Malty with mild floral hops on the finish. Medium body, fairly low carbonation and smooth oily mouthfeel. Nice Golden Ale.

Bottle from Beers Of Europe. Appearance - golden with a generous fluffy head. Nose - light caramel and biscuit. Taste - treacle cake, light citrus note. Palate - light to medium bodied, creamy and lightly sweet. Dry-ish finish. Overall - this one is definitely a Bitter possibly even verging on ESB.
