Fürchterliches Flaschendesign spricht ja oft für Qualität. Na dann ran ans Glas. Optisch dunkles Kupfer. Schaum passt. In der Nase Karamellmalz. Im Trunk sehr sehr malzig, fetter Karamell-Brocken, sehr erdig, satt, schwer, brotig, aber nicht verkehrt. Brotzeitbier, bassd sagt der Franke.

500ml bottle. Minimally milky, amber colour with average to huge, mountainous, thick, firm, frothy to creamy, moderately lasting and lacing, white head. Malty-spicy, minimally doughy yeasty and yeasty spicy aroma, rye malt-like spiciness, a touch of pretzel. Taste is malty spicy, minimally doughy yeasty, mineral and salty, notes of pretzel, a touch of salt crystal, some hop bitterness. Watery texture, smooth and slightly dry palate, fine and soft carbonation. Well crafted, clean and focussed - an example of what good quality can be reached while brewed according to the 'Reinheitsgebot', without usage of adjuncts, hyped hop varieties and furthermore in an old-fashioned style. Not that I repudiate recent progressions; but what we've got here is good beer - in a sense that the term beer fulfills the expectations of the uninitiated people.

Bottle from the Elsfleth Hol-Ab. Brown with a golden hue. The frothy head fades slowly. Mildish aroma of caramel and herbs. Faint chocolate. Taste is moderate bitter with a grainy, herbal finish. Not bad.

Süffiger, herb karamelliger Beginn. Kernig, trocken, die Karamelligkeit bleibt konstant. Dunkles Malz, geringe Bitterkeit, hohe Süffigkeit. Langer getreidig herber Abgang. Gut! 10/11/11/12/11/11

0,5 l bottle from our local Hol´ Ab! market. Clear dark red brown in the glass with a nearly three finger pale beige head. Looks really good. Malty caramel smell. Taste has a mix of caramel and little bit toasted malt, peanuts, present hop in the second row. Smooth palate. Nice.

Hazy brownish. Aroma is sulfur buttered bread. Taste is sulfuric water with some yeast and sweet dough. Butter finish. Sadly undrinkable due to the sulfur. (5-4-5-2-8) Rerate: Apparently the bottle is better: Some yeast floaties in hazy brown liquid. Aroma is honey, caramel, brown rye bread, some wet grains. Taste is sweet caramellized almonds with a bit of sour fresh and juicy spots. Quite drinkable. Not too sweet. Not very bitter. Not bad. (7-3-7-4-12)

Tap. Hazy amber color with creamy beige head. Aroma is bready, grainy, nutty, rustic barnyard. Taste is moreish bread, leafs, grassy, nutty, very rustic again. Oily mouthfeel with natural carbonation. Very good!
