The aroma is a blend of fresh grassy and floral hop and a subtly soft, caramel-tinged maltiness. The palate is a balance of gentle grainy maltiness and sprightly floral, citrusy fresh hop fruitiness. The finish is bittersweet with hints of citrus fruit weaving in and out.

Cask st the William Shenstone, Halesowen. Pours gold with a small head. Aroma is eggy straw. Taste has sweet lemon and straw.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Tempo. Thanks kerenmk. Clear golden. Aroma of malt, kinda stale, a bit of dust. Sweetish flavor with stale-ish malt, a bit of minerals, and a bitter finish. Light to medium-bodied.

Bottle from Morrison’s. Golden coloured pour with a fading off white head. Aroma is grassy, little sileage, mineral. Flavour is rustic, straw, fermented grass, bitter earthy grains. Palate is semi sweet grains, moderate carbonation. Substantial dirty rugged bitterness. OK.

From cask at The Crown Rivers at Heathrow Airport 05.05.15. Clear golden. Small white head. Moderate aroma, with hints of American hops, lime and blackcurrant. Similar taste. Moderate bitterness.

Bottle that Dad shared with me- cheers! Gold with a moderate white head. Far too fizzy. Nice fresh lemon up front, then caramel and vanilla take over. Mildly bitter at the end, but lacks crispness. This may have been one of the earliest (if not the first) UK golden ales, and was no doubt rather innovative at the time, but nowadays it doesn’t stand up to comparison with it’s modern rivals and is a below-par example of the style.

Cask at Windmill (JDW) on Stansted airport. Golden coloured, medium sized white head, weak hoppy fruity nose. Moderate malty, fruity hoppy and slight buttery with rather short dry finish. Boring one.
