On cask at the Standing Order. Appearance - a dark amber orange with a decent head. Nose - toffee and sugar candy. Some biscuit too. Taste - more of the same with some apple on the finish. Palate - medium bodied with a creamy yet tangy texture and a fairly good finish. Overall - a solid bitter. Could drink another.

This beer was brewed to celebrate the 2010 World Cup (football, or Soccer to some) and the English teams participation. The beer will hopefully stay longer in the momory than the England teams perfomances will! Clear 500ml bottle, best before 31 May 2011, drank 2nd July 2010. I suspect it is the same beer that was brewed for the 2006 World Cup also, as it looks and tastes just like the review for that beer (that I’ve just read). The colour was light amber, the head a good white showing at first, it then fell away, but left some good lacing on the ’Old Speckled Hen’ vase shaped pint glass it was reviewed in. The aroma was hops all the way, as was the taste, bitter hoppiness, but not overly so, good dry aftertaste, with some malty sweetness trying to get through the hop flavours towards the end of the mouthfeel. A bit thin in the bodyfeel, but overall, not too bad.

500ml bottle. Pours a slightly hazy golden with a small head. Aroma is fruity malt, some skunk and metallic as well. Slightly spicy start. Nice strong fruity bitter finish but the skunk and metal are there throughout.

[Cask at Cape Bar, Reading] Pours golden amber, moderate cream head. Caramel & malt aroma. Lemon, mineral and biscuit flavour. Dry and fairly bitter finish. OK as a summer refresher, but forgettable.

Cask at the Hope Tap (JDW), Reading. Hazy amber with a thin cream head; aroma of malt and typical Marston’s sulphur; thin malty body with some dilute orange fruit flavour; the finish is dry and chalky and rather cloying. Unsatisfying, and definitely a weak offering from one of my favorite brewers.

Bottle, unfiltered
Golden color. Smells like a cheap Lager. Better flavor: some malt, dry, good body strength and high bitterness.
