Brown 500ml bottle best before 31 Dec 2008, drank Sep 2008. Poured into a half pint tumbler a couple of times. Large tan head at first, this soon shrank to a wisp and collar. The body of the beer was an old gold colour and dull, even when held up to the light. Typical English beery smell of hops and barley malts, some mixed fruits as well (maybe). A dry bitterness hits your mouth, it is both sharp and refreshing, this beer has a lot of character for a 3.8% bitter. There was a malty aftertaste that held my attention for a while and it is full bodied and fairly interesting. Not bad at all.

Cask at GBBF 08. Gold, lasting creamy head. Bit of Burton snatch on the aroma. Some biscuit, faint hop on end. Let’s say that Hoggy is a better night watchman than this is a bitter.

50cl bottle from Asda, Woodley. Amber with a thick white head; citrus and malt aroma with some Marston’s sulphur; taste is dominated by bitter hops but with an underlying caramel sweetness. Not a very subtle beer.

(Cask at Market Porter, Southwark, London, 11 Aug 2007) Amber colour with almost no head, cloudy. Malty, nutty nose with earthy hops. Malty, nutty taste with notes of orange and slightly earthy hops in the finish. Hints of butterscotch shining through, a bit flat. Probably not in top form.
