Tasting at Ryan's, bottle
Black colour, it looks like an imperial stout. Aroma of spirit, dark caramel, nothing special. Full bodied, sweet, but it also has strong roasted malt / dark sugar character, and strong alcohol; some dark chocolate, tar, molasses, bourbon.
Closer to an Imperial Stout than anything Barley Wine (although some people believe in the existance of dark Barely Wines).

750ml (thx, Tom B. for a pick-up and storage!) @ Ryan's. Appearance: pours like very dark brown with no head. Aroma: very sweet, licorice, dark malts, some fruity notes. Taste: along the same lines, feels like licorice coming to the sweet soy sauce territory. Overall: feels rather like a blend of a stout and a barleywine than a barleywine.

Poured from 750mL bottle. Near black with almost no beige head. Bourbon, mild dark dried fruits, almost stout-y that more fruited (like a blended barley wine and stout), alcohol there though mild for 14%, touch of licorice and sweet soy sauce. Decent, but could be more cohesive.

Dark brown. No head. The aroma is big bourbon on the nose with roast. On the palate, again lots of bourbon. Medium body, a bit acidity and some fruitiness. Looks more roasted than it tastes. Okay malt base...the treatment really dominates here.

Bottle thanks to Anthony. Pours black with small tan head that diminishes quickly. The aroma is strong bourbon, wood, vanilla, peat, char, licorice, roast, cocoa. Slick body, dark chocolate, caramel, licorice, bourbon, wood, light smoke finish, enjoyed this.
