With “Big Beers” long-lasting grip on South African hop varieties finally coming to an end, we were able to snag some of these vibes and whip up something special and unique. This sour is dry-hopped using Southern Passion, which is a cross of Czech Saaz and German Hallertauer. Both unique and complex, Southern Passion offers ripe tropical fruit flavors like passion fruit, guava, and coconut as well as citrus and red berries.

Hazy, dullish pale colour and a bit of head. Bright hop notes and the standard Russell kettle sour base, along with a bit of yeastiness that muddles the aroma a little bit. Those hops are really, bright though, mango, guava and passionfruit. On the palate, much the same. the kettle character is heavy, but the hops are big enough to mostly drown it out. And these are damn fine hops. It knocks me out that Southern Passion has some old school lineage because it tastes nothing like noble hops. Excellent hop and I'm enjoying this one.

Pours bright stormy yellow with very good white foam. Soft passionfruit aroma, citrus, a little too subdued. Taste is refreshing passionfruit, slightly sweet and tart, definitely not sour. Smooth, good carbonation. Adequate.
