Glass from 0,75l bottle at the brewery. Dark reddish, small pink head. Smells grapes, marzipan, cherries, spices, xmas spices. Lovely smell. Full body, light carbonation. Tastes of cherries, grapes, spices, cinnamon, cloves, marzipan, peppery. Finishes lightly dry with notes of cinnamon, cherries and spices. Very very nice one, very good to drink.

Sour ale by much-coveted Antidoot, a fruit beer combining sour cherries with grapes, which is a combination I never encountered before; sampled at Gents Bierfestival. Moussy, open but edge-retaining, pale off-pinkish head on a lightly hazed, orangey cognac blonde beer with salmon-pinkish tinge – quite a unique colour, and in any case lighter than expected seen the used fruit species. Aroma does have ripe blue grape but far less sour cherry, rather a sweet and perfumey strawberry scent actually, further hints of red apple, rosehip, pomegranate, Angostura bitters, wormwood, cut flowers, ground ivy. Tart onset but gently so, juicy blue grape sweetishness and again far less sour cherry acidity yet still with a lemony-sour edge, medium carb, smooth and slender cereally middle under drying lactic tartness, berry-like fruitiness and eventually – quite unexpectedly – a strong, herbal wormwood- and Angostura-like bitterness coming up, like some sort of bitterroot liqueur. Some of that sweet, delicate fruitiness shines through the bitterness, making for an interesting finish. Antidoot experiments regularly with bitter herbs (like actual wormwood and bitterroot) in their sour ales so that must have been the base here – and rather than going all fruity and turning this into a juicy fruit lambic-like drink, they apparently opted for a more restrained approach, in which that herbal bitterness is left intact, making for a stark contrast with the sweet, delicate, ‘rosy’, flowery and fruity aspects that colour the first stage of the beer. A bit bizarre, certainly different from what I was expecting, a kind of fruited ‘kruidenbittertje’ so to speak, but all the more interesting for it.

Bottle sample during Gents Bierfestival '21 - shared with Tderoeck.

Bright red colour. Aroma has cherry pits and wood. Flavour has sharp red fruits. Quite a lot of cherry. Not so much typical wine taste though. The cherry elements are a bit too dominant. Nice balance of sweey and sour.

Beautiful Bordeaux - sorry, Burgundy as it is Pinot Noir - purplish red with a small pinkish rim. Wine, grapes, red berries and ripe sour cherries in an intense bucket, sorry, bouquet. Bit impression of springwater-diluted red wine or cherrywine. Old barrels, in a nice aromatic way. Light body, almost bereft of carbonation. Quite good, as expected.
