Light, smooth, and refreshing, Summer Ale is pale gold in colour, and at 3.9% alcohol by volume, an excellent quaffing ale. It delivers a flavour most lagers can only dream of, thanks to its all-malt brew (containing malted wheat), and 100% Saaz hops, a Czech variety found in the best pilseners. Like Organic Honey Dew, it should always be served chilled.

Cask at PoW, Farnborough, 16/08/17. Nil aroma, but obscured by fag smoke. Gold. Thin white head. Light umami. A sweet edge. A citrus acidity develops. Medium bodied. Odd texture: almost porridge. Sediment. Flat carbonation. Abrupt finish. Guess it had been on a while. Seemed a bit off.

2 pints of cask at the Counting House. The first was excellent, but if I was being picky, just a bit too warm. A good mouthfeel, but there seemed to be more flavour of corn than I remember from previous years. The second tasted a bit weird, but not enough to send it back. It was good, but that corn flavour really started to grate and I was keen to move onto another beer by the end of the second pint. My annual Fullers Summer Ale box has been ticked and it isn’t as good as I remember from previous years.

Handpull cask at the brewery. Light gold, clear with very little head. Strong honey, hint of lemon, strong sulphur notes. Sweet taste with a bitter note. Slight doughy sourness on the finish. Basic sessionable golden ale, very refreshing and grows on me, but not the best of Fuller’s beers.
