Rock Fantasy recently celebrated 33 years in business and is one of our favorite places on the Middletown tour. It’s a two minute walk from the brewery and a frequent destination for all of the guest breweries that swing into town. Non-assuming from the front, this legendary music and pinball shop will blow your mind. When you walk into the back room, the bright fluorescent colors, vintage pinball machines, heavy metal music, and retro concert posters will totally mess with your head and transport you to a different time and place in the best way possible. When we brought our friends from Verdant Brewing there, it became clear we needed to make a beer along the same lines, a total assault on your mind and reality.

We started with a big dose of wheat and oats and used a matching hop bill for both the whirlpool and dry hop featuring equal amounts of Hull melon, Mandarina Bavaria, Barbe Rouge, Enigma, Galaxy, and Nelson. Just like its namesake, it’s a total blast with a very exotic variety of flavor. It has strong melon notes coupled with citrus, berry, and currant undertones. It’s pretty dank too, which we found fitting for the name. The finish is a smooth citrus-melon-berry combo with our #EQjuice profile. It’s a super fun beer named after a super fun place.

We want to thank Stephen Keeler, the brainchild and owner of @rockfantasyconcertshop for being a great neighbor and always welcoming us and our out of town guests with open arms.

Pours hazy yellow gold into a tulip. Bright white head with good retention recedes leaving spider lacing. Mango, guava and melon rind aromas. Soft with sweet white smarties and dirty melon rind front to back. Lasting bitter tropical fruit skin and melon rind finish. Nope.

Can pour from One Stop Market. Opaque dark orange-brown w/dark floaties, nice sparkle and head with excellent retention and light lacing. Aroma is citrus and guava with strong malt backbone. Taste is citrus, passionfruit, late baked bread. Smooth, frothy texture, somewhat thin, soft carbonation, finish as taste. Decent but not earth shattering.

Cloudy creamy orange body, thick cream head. Aroma intensely tropical with lots of pineapple and lychee; also orange breads, lemon, gin, and dough. Body tart and dry with sour orange and lychee, pineapple, passionfruit, pink grapefruit rind and juice, and quince. Exotic and funky, but too much on the oily, tannic side and could use some chewy sweetness for balance.

Can at home, from HOTM online IIRC, 29/09/21. Hazed orange to light golden with a good sized lasting white head. Nose is juicy citric flesh, pine resin, grapefruit, mango, light weed, soft malts. Taste comprises ripe melon, mixed tropical fruit medley, pine resin, grapefruit, grass, light hop spice. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close spiked with juice laden hop bitterness allied to a gentle kiss of alcohol. Solid easy drinking DIPA.
