Borrowing elements from both high-end craft cocktails and moody jazz clubs, Velvet Rush takes the bourbon barrel-aged brown ale up an octave with free-flowing notes of coffee, chocolate and vanilla extract. Milk sugar aids in weaving together this complex tapestry of flavors to create a unique sipping experience that really ties the room together.

Bottle from Dranken Vandewoude and drunk at home. Very dark brown beer lasting beige head Malty milk chocolate aroma. smooth in mouth hides abv well. touch of vanilla and coconut from the bourbon and additives. chocolate no doubt not overly sweet but sweetness is there and could become cloying. some heat on finish. decent flavours smooth. just a little sweet and obvious.

Bottle, 0.355l. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, chocolate and vanilla. Pours clear dark brown color with thin creamy cappuccino-like head and sparkling appearance. Taste starts with moderate sweet milk chocolate, coffee and caramel, follows by roasted malt, vanilla and wood, mouthfeel is warm and mild spicy, while finish is mild bitter. Full body, creamy texture and average carbonation in palate. Brown velvet…

0.355 l bottle from 'Drinks & Gifts', bottled in July 2021. A little hazy, dark ruby with a medium large, frothy, slowly diminishing, beige head. Sweetish-malty, gently roasty, minimally fruity aroma of lots of coffee, cocoa, caramel, vanilla, light bourbon and hints of raisins. Fairly sweet, malty, gently roasty, minimally fruity taste of caramel, cocoa, lots of coffee, vanilla, some bourbon and traces of raisins, followed by a medium long, gently bitter, roasty and a slightly boozy finish. Medium to full body, smooth but quite effervescent mouthfeel, soft to average carbonation. Nice one, very intense and warming. Very prominent on the coffee, but unfortunately with only subtle barrel-aging. Tasty beer, but a bit unbalanced.

Bottled. A dark brown beer with a lazing tan head. The aroma has notes of caramel, nuts, vanilla, lactose, and a bit of roasted malt. The flavor is sweet with notes of roasted malt, bread, caramel, nuts, lactose, and a bit of bourbon, leading to a dry finish.

On tap at Angels Trumpet House, pours a clear dark amber brown with a small white head. Nose is huge on the bourbon barrels upfront, with vanilla, caramel and heavy bourbon. Flavour is rich and bourbony, with lots of bourbon barrels, brown sugar, molasses, vanilla and caramel. Rich, nicely sweet and rounded. Lovely.

Bottle from Craft Logic at home. Dark dark brown pour, translucent with cream colored foamy head. Aroma is rich and luscious coffee, vanilla, chocolate, wet wood, bourbon. Taste is sweet vanilla and bittersweet coffee and chocolate, big alcohol burn at the end. Middle is a bit empty, strangely - like a plain brown ale. Maybe unfair criticism but it’s disappointing. Palate is smooth and bit thinner than expected. Not bad though. Finish is warm alcohol bite. Lasting sweet brown ale nutty spice. Overall not one of my favorite of Founders’ barrel aged series, but they’re never a total miss either. Worth a try.
