Gyle 400. A complex malt bill and Belgian yeast create a truly decadent dark beer with notes of chocolate, burnt caramel, malted milk biscuits, stone fruit and a subtle vinous character.

Bottle at home in Hackney - picked up at Clapton Craft. Pours rich black-brown with a frothy, tan head. Nicely rounded, a little English yeast, sturdy roast, bittersweet cocoa, burnt toffee, dried berries, raisins. Medium to full bodied, lightly chewy, with average carbonation. Somewhat warming finish, lots or luscious, rounded chocolate character, subdued roast, more berries and raisins and toasted toffee, mellow earthy bitterness. Punchy for sure but has some nice depth and impressively high drinkability. Yeah, a little dangerous to be honest. Excellent.

Tap at Goose Island -Shoreditch. Blabk with thin beige head. Roasty, sweet aroma, sugar. Taste starts with the sugary sweetness wrestling with some booziness, the sweet coming out on top. Latent warmth. Light chocolate and woody elements.

Keg at MK VHX, 13/11/19. Black with a well presented dirty tan cap that retains well. Nose is fruit cake, molasses, light charr, dark fruit rinds, treacle toffee, burnt sugars. Taste comprises sweet malts, light black peppery spice, molasses, liquorice, boozey tunes, faint medicinal notes. Full bodied, oily complexion, warming alcohol at the curtain call. Decent enough impy ... perhaps lacking depth but drinks fine and offers a good boost for the hefty ABV.
