At first glance, the true power of Brooklyn Cloaking Device is hidden. All at once there comes a wave of Brett-powered earthy aromas, a thrilling rush of Cacao-like fruitiness, hints of vanilla and pineapple, a touch of acidity, underlying forest-floor funk and the powerful murmur of French oak barrels. A beautifully dry finish cuts through and leaves you wondering how we got the drop on you. This is the true power of the Cloaking Device: the element of surprise.
Cloaking Device stands as a tribute to these porters past. We brewed a strong Brett-fermented porter and aged it for nine months in French oak red wine barrels from our pals at the Larkmead Winery in California. It was then hand-bottled and re-fermented in the bottle with Champagne yeast. It is delicious, a versatile companion for food, and conducive to dreams of adventure.

Ingredients:

Malts: 2-row, Crystal 150, Crisp Chocolate, Crisp Black, Roasted barley

Hops: Summit, East Kent Golding

On draught at Bob’s Bar during the "Founders Brewing Beer Week Kickoff" event on 05/12/2017. The beer is a dark brown color with a medium beige head that diminishes steadily to an outer ring. Partial rings of lacing. Aroma of oak, funky yeast and roast malt. Medium to full body with a vinous oak character and flavors of brett yeast, chocolate malt and a bit of roast coffee. The finish is oaky with a funky yeast aftertaste. Pretty good overall.
