Pour is a dark brown almost black with a small tan head. Aroma is brown sugar, molasses and a bit of dark fruit. Flavor is toffee and a burnt sugar with molasses bringing up the rear. Everything you want in a dopplebock is here. One to seek out.

Draft at BitterCreek. After rousing success with their other faithful styles, this one’s a letdown. Malty and nutty, but kind of bland. At its core it’s true to style, but just average.

On Tap clear deep chestnut brown. Fine thin lasting light tap head and lacing. Nutty milk chocolate aromas and flavors. Woody and some mocha at the end. A littel ABV burn at the end, for not even 7%.

Amber-brown, thin head. Has a light chewy toffee nose. Has a nice fruity character from the malt richness.

Draught at St. Augustine’s, Vancouver
Dark brown color with small head; red hue. The aroma is mild, lightly fruity (apple). The mouthfeel is lean and smooth; some caramel flavor, malt, dash of chocolate, with light oxidation feeling; light residual sweetness; ordinary bitterness, with some roasted nuts in the end. Short final.
Weak Doppelbock; quite common American interpretation (although examples exist in Germany as well); not exciting, no class.

Tap. Red black with medium off white head. Not too sweet like some doppelbocks. Pleasant edge. Nicely bodied. Occidental is an upcoming brewery. Worth drinking if you encounter them
