In 1989 we opened our doors with our flagship, 90 Shilling. Still a favorite today, we’re celebrating our Silver Anniversary with a double version of the recipe that started it all. We’re a little bigger now, and 180 Shilling is too, with a hearty roasted malt base balanced by subtle earthy hops and aged on oak to create notes of toffee, plum, vanilla and dried cherry. Thanks for 25 years of beers, and here’s to many more. Cheers!

Draft at BitterCreek. Nods to barleywine, and scotch ales this barrel aged version is soft and smooth, and potent. Big, sweet nose, followed by caramel and butterscotch flavors, tempered by the wood barrels. Very warming, and tasty, slightly gritty and dirty. nice.

On tap at the brewery. Pours an amber with small beige head leaving spotty lacing. The aroma is caramel, roast, burnt sugar. Medium body, caramel, earth, dark fruit, boozy finish, very good.

Sample during the "Beer And Food Pairing" hosted by rogueone on 02/21/2016. The beer is a clear dark amber color with a medium off-white head that diminishes gradually to a film. Patchy lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malt, caramel, fruit and hops. Medium to full body with flavor of caramel malt, dark fruit and earthy hops. The finish is sweet with a malty aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

750 c&c from Wine & Cheese. Pours darkly ruby with a creamy beige head. Aroma of moderately roasted malt and a lot of spicy/floral hop tickling my nose. Med body, but not by much. Flavor is lightly roasty malt, light spice, and a fair dose of floral hop. Some woody astringency. It’s delightul, but not easy to describe. Certainly roasty malt is important, certainly spice is important, and mayb heat is important. But there’s a lot more. Very good stuff. Maybe I should have just descibed it as spiced cola.

Bottle shared at a tasting. Pours a hazy red with a large fizzy tan head. Fair head retention. Aroma of toffee, dark fruit, wood, mild chocolate. The taste is dark fruits, toffee, vanilla, wood, burnt sugar. Medium bodied. Nice.

Caged and corked 750mL bottle pours with a clear deep red amber colored body that supports a thin tan head. The modest aroma offers up malts, brown sugar, raisins, a dash of caramel and faint booziness. The taste begins with smooth malts thinly rimmed with molasses and then quickly picking up brown sugar covered raisins and prunes. Well behind those notes lurks an unmistakable vanilla sweetened spicy oak sensation that helps add depth to the experience. Tasty sipper that could use a dash of kettle caramelization and toffee notes that come to the surface in my opinion.

It pours a clear copper with a 1 finger head of foam, good lacing.
It has a malty albeit not so sweet aroma..I get a hoppy bite in there. There are suggestions of dark fruit and toffee.
Malty taste with dark fruit, raisins perhaps plums, toffee, some hop bitterness, bit of booze. Overall, it is quite earthy.
On the high end of medium bodied, lively carbonation.
Since this is a double of their 90 Shilling, I thought it would be a Wee Heavy/Scotch ale. It sure drinks like one.

On tap @ Odell (called 180 Schilling). Pours a deep maroon orange appearance with a thin light brown head. Aroma isn’t overly hoppy- some earth and herbs. There’s also some caramel, apple, and pear. Medium plus body. Moderate plus sweetness. Moderate bitterness. Kind a bit of white fruit in the flavor with some caramel and toffee. A little gooey. No heat on the back end. Smooth but honestly not all that flavorful. Odell rating #200 for me!
