Bottle to snifter, the appearance was a semi-dark brown color with a finger’s worth of slight white foamy head. Boy, did that dissipate quickly, ya blink and you’ll miss that head. Lace? Nope, not there.
The aroma had some super dried nutty and rough sweet wood. Dark fruits stretching upon some barnyard features and some black licorice with a huge cereal sweetness.
The flavor was sweet and barnyardy with some smoke and stale vanilla beans. Bubblegum dried sweetness with sharp grassy tones. Aftertaste seemed to linger for days of the malts penetrating the finish in a cloying fashion.
The palate was about medium bodied with no sort of sipping quality about it as an Imperial stout should. Carbonation did feel fine. The ABV felt fine too.
Overall, not a good beer at all, I wouldn't return to this.

375ml bottle from the brewery. 15 months since purchase. Clear, dark, cola brown. Ring of dense, tan head. Nose has robust maple syrup. Charred wood. Sweet smoke. Some stewed stone fruit. Smells like baked prunes. Taste is sticky sweet. Fruity and ripe. Some booze. Gets a little phenolic. Slick mouthfeel. Drinks fairly easy for the ABV. Syrupy finish. Really good.

375ml bottle share thanks to Steve. Back to reality after the Cassian Sunset. Rather pedestrian RIS with enough minor notes from the bourbon and maple to make it interesting. But not enough to push it into exceptional. Finishes with a lingering odd metallic taste.

375ml bottle thanks to Steve. Pours out black topped with a small tan head. Nose is sweet roast malts some coffee maple syrup and barrel vanilla. Taste is more of the heavy roast malts chocolate sweetness bourbon barrel maple syrup and a odd metallic note.

375ml bottle shared by Chalumeaux. Thanks TJ. Pours nearly black with a weak head. Aroma is dark chocolate, maple sugar, hint of smoke.
The flavor is bad. The sip shows light oak upfront with red wine notes thought the center. It finished on sweaty, dirty socks and bad bacteria. Notes of wet green oak. Gross. Total drain pour.

Poured from bottle dark cola pour with a mocha head. Aromas of roasted malt bacteria and toe jam. Tastes like an infected mess. Was looking forward to this. --- Beer merged from original tick of Maple Bourbon Barrel Aged Imperial Stout on 11 Jun 2016 at 18:45 - Score: 3. Original review text: Sad. An infected mess.
