Dark, intense and full-flavoured, it is our tribute to the Vikings and their cultural legacy in Orkney. The first thing to touch the islands would have been their long ship's Dragonhead.

Dragonhead is brimming over with rich roast malt and roast barley flavours. Aromas of bitter chocolate, roast coffee and spicy dark fruits are complemented by a complex, bitter blend of hop varieties.

Hops: Challenger, East Kent Goldings
Malts: Pale, Crystal, Chocolate, Malted Wheat, Black, Roasted Barley

Bottle from The Orkney Brewery. Pours a jet black colour with a thin beige head. Aromas of coffee, chocolate, liquorice and roasted malts. Taste is more of the same with strong coffee notes and lots of burnt bitterness, nuts and ash. Medium bodied with a slick very oily mouthfeel. Lots of burnt roasted notes creating a long and lingering aftertaste. A little harsh on the bitterness but still a flavourful old fashioned style stout

Cask @Luppolo Station (Rome). Bruna intensa/nera, schiuma color cappuccino media. Al naso malti tostati, caffè, nocciola, cacao in polvere. In bocca è equilibrata, con discreto spunto amaro e acidità da tostato. Corpo leggero. Buona.

Cask, Crown Inn, Coldingham. Tasted in 2003. Rating from notes. Creamy at first, than a roasty bitterness comes up that lingers on and on. Apple and a fair deal of fishy saltiness

500 ml bottle. Pours a very dark brown with moderate tan head. Aromas of slightly smokey roasted malts and dark milk chocolate. Flavors of dry roasted malts, ash, and nutty dark chocolate. Initial watery sensation with dry roasty finish. Nothing really special these days but quite good for the ABV and the original style
