Bottle. Clear dark amber color with creamy white head. Aroma is earthy, nutty, grainy, cereals. Taste is nutty, cereal, grainy, earthy, a touch paper. Slightly watery mouthfeel with medium carbonation. Flavour is fine, it could just be a bit more intense.

Bottle. Archer Road Beer Stop, Sheffield. Clear, dark copper colour. Bubbly, blotchy, pale grey head. Nose has fruit and nut chocolate. Cracknel toffee. Some toasty malts. Some caramel sauce. Some woody hop. Taste is light, brown sugar sweet, with a vinous bitter edge. Soft and foamy mouthfeel. Good body. Bittersweet finish that has a little dryness on the close. Very nice.

500ml bottle [No. 2 of a tripartite mini-series kindly donated by bartlebier, thank you very much!]. Clear chestnut colour with ruby red glimmer and huge, thick, creamy, fairly lasting, moderately lacing, beige head. Roasty dark malty aroma with a nuttily touch, some cocoa. Taste is dry dark malty, subtle sweetness, hints of cocoa, a nuttily touch. Clean, precise, well controlled sweetness. Good.

Many thanks for this bottle to kevnic2008. Piwo z malenka piana, kolorem jasnej czerwieni, zapachem sliwek wegierek. W smaku slodowosc, karmelowosc lekka. Zabraklo nieco wytrawnosci. Nie tego sie spodziewalem po klasztornym browarze.

This pours a clear mahogany colour with a firm 1" head of white foam.

The smell is that of what dark malts bring to the table. An aromatic mix of roasted and grainy malts that has a lovely sweetness to it. The sweet almost smells fruity, like black cherries.

No fruit in the taste at all. Just solid roasted malt flavour with grain ad a light sweet note here and there. Not particularly bitter nor sweet. In between I’d say.

Medium body, lightish carbonation.

A solid if not great example of the style, imho.
