Skull Splitter is one of our strongest beers, named after Thorfinn Einarsson the 7th Viking Earl of Orkney.

It is a sophisticated, satiny smooth and full flavoured beer. It has a rich fruity wine-like complexity with flavours of fresh and dried fruits, warm exotic spice and mellow summer fruity notes.

Hops: East Kent Goldings
Malts: Pale, Crystal, Chocolate,Malted Wheat

Bottle from Beers of Europe, online. Pours a murky amber-brown, with small beige head. Aroma is sweet and boozy with notes of sherry, fruitcake, oak, toffee. Taste is malty with caramel and toffee, sherry, wood, dried fruits, booze. Medium to full bodied Heady stuff, I like it.

11.2oz bottle. Seems pretty old, in bad shape. Loads of floaties in the murky brown-gray body. Thin off-white head rims the glass. Malty, sweet, no hop tone in sight. True, classic Scotch Ale for sure, but not my favorite example. Pleasant malt tones. Clean for the ABV. OK.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a bright dark mahogany with short head. Aromas of dry caramel, raisins and bready malts. Flavors follow same but with drier more bitter malts more like bread crusts.

33cl bottle from Abeervinum, Rimini, Italy. Pours a beautiful reddish brown, fairly transparent, with fine pinkish foam. Aroma is markedly malty, caramel, maybe even molasses. Body is somehow dense, with average carbonation. Taste is rather sweet. What is nice as aroma becomes excessive in taste. Final is average.

Missed review from 19.2.2016. Malt & sugar & autumnal aromas - spicy Off white head head - tight & creamy stayed well on I very dark brown body. Very rich malt tastes of spices, brown sugar & coffee. What let's this beer down is the really thin body - a real problem I think.

Bottle delivered from Beers of Europe and drunk at home. Mahogany and clear with a good-sized beige/khaki head. Sugary, malty aroma, brandy notes. Sweet taste with raisin, fig, light apple notes. Bitterness in the finish leading into the watery body. Medium to heavy carbonation. I'd forgotten how good this is.

Pours to a clear red / brown. Strong light shows up quite a lot of floaters. Head quickly dissipates to 3mm. Cherry on the nose. Mouth is sweetness and then alcohol. Nice hit of bitterness and cherry lingering for a while. Alcohol is a bit biting at the end. A bit of a calpol / cough syrup vibe to this. Actually kind of well rounded. Interesting and ok for a once off.
