Belgian Style - Strong Ale Special Out of Production|

In the spirit of traditional Belgian brewing we’ve departed from style-constraints to bring you a fresh take on the popular European style, the Belgian Amber. This big, complex, amber-hued ale was brewed with a substantial amount of Belgian and European malts that complement the spiciness imparted by Belgian abbey yeast. The result is a perfect balance between rich, toasty maltiness, Belgian Candi sugar and the light, floral profile of European hops. Enjoy this hearty Belgian-inspired brew now or age at a cool temperature to increase its complexities.

Clear mahagoni. Aroma is raisins, vanilla, creme brulee, apfelstrudel, slight phenols. Taste is the same, quite phenolic, sweet and alcoholic, lots of raisins. Sweet finish. Not bad.

Bottle. Hazy amber color with white head. Aroma is apple phenols, apfelstrudel, a bit oxidized. Taste is apfelstrudel, belgian yeasts, raisins, a touch oxidized, caramel. Oily mouthfeel with medium carbonation. Interesting, though maybe a bit too old already.

Bottle split at Hackobock Tasting, Islington, thanks to Jacob & Co 24/11/16. Rich golden amber with a decent light beige covering. Nose carries a sweet malt base, caramel, candied fruits, light spice, brioche. Taste comprises mellow stewed fruits, melted caramel, booze tunes, biscuit crumble, fruit pudding. Full bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a rising alcohol presence. Ok strong but no game changer, a bit of a let down for this series if truth be told!

Bottle, 10%. Good fruity, yeasty and dusty aroma. Clear amber colour. Small stable white head. The flavour is citric and quite caramelly. Has a good sweetness and a woody sourness. Good bready note and mouthfeel. A very good beer, but 10% is perhaps a bit much for this one.

Bottle. Pours hazy darkish amber with airy off-white head. Clear atoma of malt and caramel, with notes of fruit and touches of yeast and hops. Sweetish flavour of caramel malt, with notes of hops and touches of brown sugar, roast and fruit. Hints of smoke. Fruity and malty aftertaste with roasty notes. Warming alcohol presence. Decent.

Grand tasting at Craft Islington with Hackobock. Thanks to Jacob. Almost clear gold beer, small pale cream colour head. Palate is light and semi dry, reasonable fine carbonation. Tangy malts, trace of paper. Little dried fruits that get tangier. Dry finish. Disappointingly simple.
