Nickname for the Spanish Armada, whose wreckage was washed up on the coast near Deal after they were sunk by the English fleet and weather. Adapted from an imperial Russian porter recipe, this beer is incredibly smooth with burnt chocolate and smoky malt notes mixed with delicate hop bitterness and floral notes.

Cask 2011: Toller röstmalziger Geruch. Der Antrunk ist vollmundig-röstmalzig. Sehr viele frisch-grasige Hopfentöne, dazu schokoladige Espressonoten im Hauptteil. Der Nachgeschmack ist schokoladig-röstmalzig mit toller Herbe. Vollmundig-cremig.

Cask at the Sussex Arms, Twickenham Green, 16/02/13. Light black with a thin tan head that retains well. Nose is dark malts, light spice, dark toffee, hint of chocolate. Taste comprises roast malt, molasses, dark fruits, leather, toffee. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation with a dry finish. Ok stuff - nothing too interesting.

Bottled at chriso’s. Dark brown. Fruity tobacco aroma. Mid dry and gently roasty with rounded mouthfeel. Nuts, slight coffee and tobacco. Salty bitter finish. Tasty and nicely drinkable. More mild than imperial russian porter.
