Franciscan Well Chieftain IPA is a hugely popular IPA, and Franciscan Well’s answer to Ireland’s growing demand for IPA style beers. IPA’s are traditionally high hopped to deliver intense bitterness that lingers on the palate which usually limits what you can drink or taste after it.
With Chieftain IPA, Shane wants everything an IPA has to deliver, but he wants you to be able to enjoy another beer after it. Chieftain IPA is a great stepping stone into the land of big and bitter.

Pours a clear copper color from the can. Aroma is a mix of caramel and grapefruit. Taste is bittersweet, bitter at the end with a tart note that lingers. Body is surprisingly light, texture somewhat watery and seems oddly out of place given the rather robust flavors. Grew flat rather quickly. Okay.

Cask in Maynooth, Irish backlog.

330ml can: BB 31st Oct 18. Poured into a chalice at home on 1st Jun 18 during a mini rating session with myself. Copper/bronze body, decent white crown on top. Citrus leanings in both the nose and taste, very similar to the Guinness brewed Open Gate Brewery Citra IPA that I had before it. A little sweeter maybe, wish I had drank them side by side really.

A sweet, golden IPA with a bit of grassy aroma and a decent enough whack of hop to make up for the fact that it's a bit sweet and watery. I was drinking it in a nice, hot beer garden so I may be better disposed towards it than it deserves but it did the trick there.
