Double IPA brewed with oats and lactose. While we’ve grown fond of brewing with these ingredients on Lake Street, seldom have we canned beer with them. Save for our collab with Other Half (Made Up Dream) and a Bonus Track, this is a creamy depature from the norm of our canned offerings. Dry-hopped with Citra, Nelson and Galaxy, Together or Alone is 8.5% abv and presents a palette consisting of candied orange rind and crushed pineapple, with a creamy body, and dank finish.⠀

The art on this can was created by an artist we’ve been looking forward to working with for some time now. Caitlin Ryan (@cvit_ryvn) is a local artist living and working in Burlington. After studying studio art at UVM, Caitlin has been honing her style over the years, only presenting her work to the public more recently. Using past experience, photos, color, and the human form to convey a feeling, a place, or a moment, Caitlin creates beautiful, dream-like imagery utilizing a combination of watercolor painting and drawing. A friend and long-time supporter of the brewery, Caitlin is someone who we’re proud to represent us in a creative way, and this can came out even better than we ever imagined.

Reviewed from notes.
Can to tulip.
Appearance: burnt orange haziness with a two and a half fingers of white foamy head which dissipated nicely to leave some light lace
Aroma: pineapple to mango to papaya hop notes with a light creamy whiff underneath
Flavor: melds the prior noted aromas to lean towards more of tropical fruity sweet vibe while seemingly keeping the creamy/lactose thing a bit more at bay; finishes about the same way
Texture: light to medium bodied, leaning towards being a sipper a bit; good smoothness with nothing there distracting; good low carb and low hop bitterness
Overall: if this is a milkshake IPA then it's one of the better ones out there as I'm glad the vanilla/lactose thing didn't become overbearing as many of this style tend to, so yes, I would return to this one.

Canned 12/15/21, drunk 1/12/22. Medium hazy, drab-pineapple with a small, white head that slowly recedes to cover/ring. Getting more crushed pineapple than I'd expect from Citra/Galaxy/Nelson, but there's also plentiful other tropical fruits in there. Softer mango and I almost want to say creamy vanilla? Ah, I see, this has lactose in it. Well, it's creamy-vanilla-like and orange creamsicle-like, so I guess that's successful, but oh, hey, what about the fact that the hops are massively muted because of the lactose? Fuck brewing with lactose in hoppy beers, what a waste! Giving credit where due, however, the flavor is pretty fantastic and interesting. While I ultimately think it gets tiresome (the creamy-sweet-vanilla-lactose character), it does create some fun flavors with the hops, yielding lots of pineapple, intense mango, hints of lemon and plenty of orange creamsicle. With warming, it's more of the same, with the addition of honey-like maltiness. It's certainly soft and creamy, that's for sure....Definitely could use a LOT more bitterness and I don't even care much for bitterness Ain IPAs. But this is just too much sweet and creamy. At the end of the day, I'm fine with lactose, at least as a novelty, but please make it balanced.

Pours a hazy, lemon yellow, with smallish head that dissipates rather quickly. Aroma is citrus, with some tropical fruit, some grassiness. Flavor is quite grassy, with citrus and tropical fruit elements, and almost a touch of a saison-like pepperiness. Has a fairly bitter, hoppy finish as well.

16oz can pours a pulpy yellow with plenty of white head. Nose has muddled citrus zest, sweet herbs, grass, some pineapple and mango. Flavor is right up front with the pineapple and mango and some white melon, lemon and orange and tangerine now, some honey, sweet herbs, some green grape. Finished nearly full bodied, fruity.

Badass mashup of orange and pineapple juice. This has a nice hop presence too, which that DN Ripe was lacking. Galaxy, citra, Nelson baby! Crushing this outback with The Ghost insistent on playing fetch, even though he is gassed. Thanks Sean for scooping!
