330ml can. Pours black, unsurprisingly, with a persistent one finger tan head. Aroma: roasted malts, fruit, citrus, pine. Taste: fruity with roasted malts, citrus, pine, hint of coffee and chocolate, bitter finish. Medium body, average carbonation. Pretty good beer which grew on me. Lacks the intensity and fuller flavours of a Black IPA, and with a lighter body I suppose Black IPL is a fitting style descriptor for this.

330ml can from Chez Sophie, Shrewsbury: BBD 9th Oct 17, poured into a Westmalle chalice at home on 18th Mar 17. Dark body, black in fact, the head a beige blanket of thin foam. Aroma of singed and burnt malts, bitter coffee grains also. Taste follows similar lines, over roasted malts with a grainy coffee flavour. Yes, percolated coffee dregs came to mind as I finished the beer: ruined the last couple of sips actually. Overall a strange beer and although I half enjoyed it, those last couple of sips changed my scores considerably.
