As the name suggests, this 11.3% ABV American Imperial Stout is the foundation of everyone’s favorite, Sunday Morning Stout, with a twist (and without the barrel aging)… This brew captures everything you’d expect from a traditional molé – coffee, chocolate, heat and smokiness. Foremost is coffee, which is followed by layers of chocolate courtesy of the chocolate malt, cocoa powder and cacao nibs. Finally, a subtle lingering heat and smokiness from our blend of ancho, pasilla, mulato and chipotle peppers, as well as cinnamon, which is gone by the time you’re ready for your next sip.

Pitch black colour. Harmonious Stout, that is not very sweet and deceptively hides the alcohol, and adds layers of cinnamon and coffee on top, just a hint of green peppers.
I like sweeter Imperial Stouts, but this one is very well done too.

355ml shared at Teekay. Appearance: very dark brown with a weak beige head. Aroma: spices, roasted malt, coffee. Taste: similar, some slight spiciness, a bit of sweetness, roasted malt. Overall: good one.

Pitch black coloured body with a thinnish ridiculously deep and dark brown head that starts at perhaps a centimetre and fades down to just about nothing. Aroma of very nice and fragrant spices with star anise and fennelseed the strongest along with pure licorice root, deep chiles (and the head that goes along with them), some canella, a dose of nutmeg and a tiny bit of both coffee (full beans) and vanilla pods. Medium to Full-bodied; Robust deep malty flavour that shows the roasted malts, a lot of coffee and astute bitterness, some deep robust caramelised sugars like molasses and toffee and ending with a ton of the spiced elements - aniseed, canella, nutmeg and a bunch of coffee and chocolate. Aftertaste is deep and pungent with the spices the strongest and showing a good deal of heat, but in a good way, but it makes the vanilla, caramelised sugars and other flavours show through in a nice, smooth, easy-drinking fashion. Overall, a very nice and incredibly pungent, full-flavoured and especially complex beer that showcases tthe spices and what it can bring to a beer, sort of like a mole to a simple 'sauce'. Great to sample, especially at the price point and well worth trying when you can find it. I believe I have some of this stuff aged for a long time, and will be happy to try this when it is a touch older, but even 'fresh' it was still fairly smooth and nice to sample. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Mac's Beer and Wine in Atlanta, Georgia on 26-May-2018 for US$2,99 sampled in my hotel room here in Buckhead/Atlanta, Georgia on 29-May-2018. Bottle. Black pour with a quickly falling tan head. The aroma is heavy roast malt, roasting coffee with a bit of alcohol. The flavor is strong and gives the impression that this is much heavier bodied than it really is. Lots of roast coffee, chocolate and the alcohol again on a fairly sweet rich palate.

OK, so I got this mug because I was buying the sunday morning impy stout and then I find it has HEAT! Big & black with a choco moose head that fades. Yes, first impressions are heat, just like a molay should, heheheh. Mexi - mole that is. Heart of heat is there. Much better than the regular sunday morning variety. Srong impy stout finish, but not as as strong as 11% would indicate.
