aroma is roasted malty, fresh cucumber, a bit of a boozy note, hints of a nutty barley wine with complexity, also faint notes that very subtly hint nuances that i might find in a quad. Mostly barley wineish though. The barrelling is not dominating in any way, only subtly hinted at. aroma is very well rounded and soft, even with the boozy note in there.
poured clear brown to dark brown with a light brown head that didn't last super long, but was not fizzy.
flavor is really really good barleywine, then add licorice and woody notes, and fainter notes from roasted malts. end is quite roasted malty and everlasting - so end is more imp stoutish than many big imp stouts. but the beginning is like a great barley wine. nutty, slightly caramelly, some roasted malts, some various notes from wood.. the beer flavor seems to stand in the middle between english style strong barley wine and american style super hevy imperial stout. Fantastic sipper.

Taster from the bottle, courtesy of Zozo and Lajos, thanks a lot! Deep, almost black pour with a thin head. Huge bourbon, vanilla, toasted malty, molassess and oak notes are present both in aroma and. Thick, rich, intense.

Sample (Wendigo Batch #2, thanks fonefan!). Black colour, small white head. Aroma is alcohol, some toffee, mild chocolate, wood, and a bit nutty elements. Flavour is alcohol, some liquorice, syrup, some nutty and chocolaty tones.A bit too boozy for it's own good.

Blackish brown, fine light brown head. Smells bourbon, raisins, caramel. Smooth, rich and boozy body, not too thick but very soft, mild warming boozy finish. Taste is very balanced, deep, light chocolate, caramel, raisins, decadent bourbon. Lovely stuff.

Poured from 375mL bottle. Near black with minimal beige head. Lots of oak on the nose, nice bourbon character, dark sugars, enjoyable.

Brown, not much head. Pours thick. This has a very nice barrel aroma, bringing vanilla, soft malts, raisins, milk chocolate, good sticky sugars. Some nice flavours in here. I like that malt base, even if it comes in a touch flat. But the big bourbon character is refined, soft, just high quality.

375mL bottle, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma is complex, with lots of bourbon barrel depth, some dark dried fruits, and brown sugar. Flavour is very rich and integrated, with lots of complex dark malts, dark dried fruits, integrated bourbon barrels, and brown sugar. The alcohol is surprisingly hidden for being 15.5%. Moderate residual sugars for the style; the barrels are really nicely expressed. Sublime stuff, but man, that price tag -- ignoring that, this is excellent.

Anchorage, I like you and enjoy your beers but please take your thick green bottle wax, that took me 10 mins to remove, and shove it! Thanks! Opaque dark brown beer, small tan head. Smooth airy palate, mildly dry, decent fine carbonation. Smooth soft malts, a rich creamy sweetness, and a reasonable creamy dark chocolate liqueur vibe, touch of chocolate fudge Touch of caramel. Good Bourbon Barrel, big, rich and rounded and fruity. A modest alcohol spice on the final finale. Never been convinced by this half Impy half barleywine 'Black Barleywine' style and this beer does not change my perception of this hybrid style. But bollocks to all that, what a lovely rich BBA treat this is.

Tricky beer. Very well crafted, but it's just that I'm not a fan of molasses. This beer has lots of that. But has great balance between sweet, bitter, carbonation. There's an additional edge, not sure from what. The whiskey barrel qualities are there but quite subtle. Really good body. Strength is hidden. True velvet hammer.
