Bottle. Medium gold color and not much of a head. Malty aroma, some grain and a bit of grassy hop. Rather dead. Rich malty flavor, a bit of fruit and a touch of piney hops. Relatively sweet and rich. Decent but not much character really. A bit of grassy hops and bitterness at the finish. OK, but I think it was surely better on tap in Vienna. Not nuanced enough for a helles, but not hoppy enough for a pils.

Bottle, labeled Original Import, 5.4%. It pours a slighlty chill hazed orange-golden body under a minimal layer of off-white bubbles. Fruit-syrupy sweetish nose with grains. Sweet flavor too, too sweet I think, with grains as a backbone, and a little bitterness lingering. The bitterness is overpowered by the sweetness all the way though. Medium body and appropriated carbonation considering the sugary feeling. Far from impressing, but not bad. Lacks on quenching qualities I think. 091102

.66 liter bottle, labeled "Original Import." Pours bright golden color, healthy column of bubbles, standard white head with no lace. Can’t detect much smell, there was a whiff of oxidation upon opening, but it’s gone right away. Taste is upfront with nice, spicy noble hops. Malts stay toward the back, just light bread, if there’s adjunct, it’s not obvious. A light European lager that I caught while still fresh. At $2.50 for a big bottle, it’s worth checking out.

Can, 5.4%. Lagery aroma, hint of hops. Almost clear golden colour. Good stable white head. The flavour has a little bisquity malt and spicy hop flavour, but also some rough flavour hop. There is even a little hop bite in the finish, but without the fresh hop flavour that should come along with it.

Can. Pours a golden color with a small longlasting white head. Has a malty grainy and bready aroma. Sweetish malty grainy flavor with some bready hints. Has a sweetish malty grainy finish with some bitterness in the aftertaste.

Sample from 330 ml bottle, simply called "Zipfer", at the Brewery International stand, Smak 09. ABV is 5.4%. Golden colour, low head. Fairly clean pilsener aroma and flavour, notes of German hops. Reasonably bitter aftertaste.

50 cL bottle, Zipfer Original. Pours clear and golden yellow with a huge white head. Crips hoppy and slight grassy aroma. Delicate fruity hops in the initial flavour. Light bitterness showing through. Light bitter and fruity finish. Nice one.

My RBESG08 journey started, if you look at ratings, at an Austrian gas/rest station with a Zipfer and it finished at another, with another Zipfer. Ogi provided this so thanks to him! From the can, in the car. Heh. Pale golden body. Appley nose, sourish hop, weak malt. Light green apple taste, scant malt. A bit harsh. Hoppy aftertaste.
