At Nya Carnegie Bryggeriet in the heart of the city of Stockholm we strive to create exceptional beers – beers that stand out from the crowd, that tower over other ‘run of the mill’ beers.

A classic Kellerbier is an unfiltered, bottom-fermented lager beer. Our version takes this idea and runs with it. Our version tries to be the best damn Kellerbier in the world.

Using floor-malted bohemian pilsner malt from the Hanka barley variety beside Perle and Mittelfruh hops from the Hallertau region of Germany and Czech Saaz, we produce a higher than usual ABV, golden-coloured lager with a strong malty, bready backbone. The big floral, herbal hop aroma is followed by refreshingly bold bitterness and elegantly rounded malt flavours.

Many brewers believe that certain beers are at their best when drunk straight from maturation tank before filtration. We want to give everyone the chance to taste it this way and see if we are right. A pure culture Bavarian yeast strain gives the beer a slight haze in the glass and the very essence of freshness that make this beer stand out from the crowd.

YEAST: Weihenstephaner Lager yeast

ABV: 5,9%

Tasteless.

Swedish Kellerbier, bottle at Arlanda airport near Stockholm, thanks Goedele for sharing. Snow white, moussy, medium thick, opening head, pale straw blonde robe with golden-greenish tinge, lightly hazy as expected from the intended style. Aroma of freshly cut Pink Lady apples, white bread dough, dried lemon zest, wet grains, green banana peel, vague dusty hint. Crisp onset, apple-ish fruity edge with a touch of unripe banana but otherwise neutral, soft and smooth pale maltiness, cereally and rounded with a slight doughy streak to it, medium carbonated with subtle minerally accents. Ends with soft floral and grassy hop bitterishness, lingering a bit and providing quite adequate dryness, well in balance with the sweetish pale maltiness. Very balanced, decent lager, better than expected and meritorious as an attempt to tackle a delicate and sensitive old Lager style, but no match for a freshly tapped Franconian Kellerbier, of course.

Pours rather clear for a Keller. Médium sized, pillowy white head. Smell is full, intense pale malts ( bread) very mild DMS. Creamy. Tad balancing hops, seemingly noble hoppy aroma is hidden, but existing. Taste is full, malty, very creamy, intense bread, tad sharp in bitterness, which is higher than the average Keller. Shows more aroma by the seemingly noble hops. Very nice Keller indeed.
