Acclaimed ISA from Connecticut, launched in 2013 when the Azacca hop variety hadn’t even received its common name yet. Moussy, dense, beaten egg-like head leaving some patches of lacing, dissolving gradually but retaining well on the edges and in the middle; misty peach blonde with a haze of tiny dead yeast bits throughout; this can is already a bit too old, I’m afraid. Still quite a lot of aromatic New World hop fragrance, though: aromas of lemon blossom, bilimbi fruit (probably the Equinox), marihuana, cedar resin (the Mosaic?), unripe mango, green banana peel, lemon-scented soap, overripe yellow kiwi, exotic pepper, wry grape peel, bitterroot, damp cigarette tobacco, dry cookies, hint of sweat but in a good way. Crisp, cleanly fruity onset with accents of unripe banana, bitter melon, kiwi and lime, restrainedly sweetish but nowhere actually sweet, balanced by soft underlying sourishness and onsetting hop bitterness; soft carbonation, lean and supple, bit oily mouthfeel, lightly bready malt background upon which the hop character intensifies, leading to a dry, aromatically hoppy finish producing long-lasting bitterness, but not in an overly harsh way; it is a slightly earthy, resinous bitterness, grapefruit peel-like, paired with elegant unripe tropical fruit and slight pine and floral aromas retronasally. Juicy finish, in which the breadiness, accentuated by the suspended yeast, pairs well with this resinous, lasting bitterness. Very refreshing and almost ’cute’ little IPA, with a delicate and elegant hop bouquet stealing the show, but still built on a light yet notably bready malt base. Flirts with the 5% ABV border so does not feel too thin in comparison with many lighter ISAs - this is, in fact, nearly a standard IPA, and indeed a ’crushable’ one as the can says. Probably a tad too old already: I’m sure this will be even more fragrant when young. As with many well-made examples of this new substyle, first and foremost a thirst quencher packed with exotic hop aromas - I still do not understand why session IPAs have so far failed to conquer more market space and exterminate standard pale lager as ’daily’ quenchers, but I’m dreaming now...

Tap at New York Sports Bar in JFK. Hazy and copper with head that only leaves a collar, but does have nice lacing. Citrusy in the aroma but everything is muted on the flavor. not bad.

Mixed review--Can from Cigarette City (rated 6/4/16) and can rated 1/24/25). Aroma is strong grapefruit, pine, herbs (not getting tropical fruit apparent in 2016), sweet malts. Appearance is cloudy yellow-orange with dark sediment floaters, finger-width fizzy white head with poor retention, fair sparkle and trace lacing (2016), clear gold with tons of sparkle, thin head w/fair retention and light lacing (2025). Taste is pine and tangy grapefruit up front with mild sweet tropical fruit second half, biscuit. Palate is smooth, frothy texture, average carbonation and dry, lightly bitter finish. Overall, they really cleaned up the look! Decent strength and still fair amount of complexity, especially for a session, though lost some of the tropical fruit aspect.

Poured from can hazy golden color with a nice white head. Aromas of bready malt citrusy hops and tropical fruit. Taste is grapefruit orange and mild hops with a nice balanced bitterness. --- Beer merged from original tick of Lil' Heaven Crushable IPA on 28 Mar 2016 at 21:21 - Score: 7

12 ounce can. Hazy yellow gold color. Large frothy beige head. Subtle yeasty citrus malt nose. Flavor is toasted malt and citrus hops, nicely balanced. Some vanilla notes in finish. A decent session IPA.

This was on tap at Vermont Tap House.
This was poured into a pint glass.
The appearance was a light yellow to orange color with a wisp of a light white little head even from the bar pour. It quickly dissipated and leaves no lacing.
The smell started off with sweet onion, light lemon, a graceful amount of orange, some mango all blending to a super nice bittersweet aroma.
The taste leaned closer to the sweet onion, allowing a nice bitterness strolling about on my tastebuds. Nice sweet onion aftertaste and finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light on the body with a nice sessionability about it. Carbonation hits just right for the style and for me.
Overall, session IPA, hell yeah, I’d say very good.

Small, foamy white head shows moderate to moderately-high retention. Clear golden liquid shows ample carbonation.
Peach, mango, lemon in the nose is quite enjoyable and a nice break from the endless permutations of citrus/pine hopped-ipas. Malt shows just a touch of cracker-like dryness/breadiness and no alcohol or flaws are noted.
Quite dry in the mouth, though not problematically so, and as the hops aren’t aggressively acidic, it’s quite appropriate. There is a bit of dullness/blandness from yeast or hop particulate (or it very well could be some influence from the toasted malt), cutting in to the otherwise bright, lively hop profile, but other than that, it’s a very mindlessly drinkable, enjoyable lil’ beer.

Can from the Craft Beer Store, Hamburg, chugged on 218333 16/07/16. Lightly hazed orange golden with a decent off white covering. Nose is pale malt, straw, melon, lemon rind. Taste comprises tangerine, toasted malt, melon, citric pith, light pine. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, juicy hop strokes in the close. Decent SIPA.
