The smells of barbecue and sunscreen, the river rushes by, the warm grass under your feet, a picnic basket full of delicacies – summer pleasure is even more beautiful when it’s shared. For the perfect day outdoors with friends you need the perfect refreshment: Hofbräu Sommerzwickl. Chilled in the river, it refreshes twice as well. Lively, delicate full flavour with an easy hoppy finish.

50cl Bottle via Bierkoning, thanks Edo! Hazy golden yellow colour, creamy white head. Aroma of sweet malts, light bready, some ripe fruits, hint of hops, sweet lemon. Flavour is medium sweet, malty, hay, bread, just light fruity, lemon, really nice light herbal and grassy bitter finish that lingers a bit. Light to medium-bodied. Would love to have this from tap on a nice summer day.

Location: Draft at Pilsener Haus, 8/2/12
Aroma: It has a nose of light hops, crystal malts, and grass, and grains
Appearance: The pour is a cloudy golden-orange color without much head or lace
Flavor: It tastes light sweet and light bitter, with a clean malty/bready type flavor
Palate: This beer has a light-medium body, with average carbonation, and a decent feel
Overall Impression: This was a more then decent offering, it is nothing spectacular, but it drinks pretty nicley, has a solid feel to it, and it works pretty well in the context of a Biergarten.

Strong golden color with white head. Smells malty-grainy with flowery hops. Starts with good aroma hops, very flowery, with a solid malt base.

Purchased this at a Orterer Getrenmarkt in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Bavaria, Germany 30.05.12 consumed Wednesday 27th June 2012 Pours hazy orange/gold with a slim white head. Nice mellow carbonation, really soft but with a light honey bitterness. A clingy but steady bitterness, touch yeastiness also prevalent. Like this. A6 A4 T7 P4 Ov14 3.5

Very hazy gold beer. Little white head. Palate is a little soft but there is carbonation. Dry malt, a little sourish and then some hop bitterness without much hop flavour. Minerals. Finishes dry with a little honey in the malt.

Pizzeria Paradiso, Alexandria tap ($6): Pours a cloudy orange/yellow with a white head. Aroma is pretty typical of the style: vegetable, German hops, and a light malt backbone. Taste is hardcore lager taste all throughout. Nice hoppiness is present. Good malts. Good balance. This is a brew I was quite happy to have. Simple, but well-crafted.

Bottle. It’s an almost clear one, golden in color and with a firm, off-white head that leaves lacings. Quite grainy on the nose, with fruits and resins. The flavor has pale malts, fruits and some resiny notes, decent bitterness. Medium body and a finish with a pleasant bitterness. Dry, medium bodied and nicely carbonated. A rather boring beer, but there’s not much wrong with it and it drinks well. 101002
