While cones, needles and fresh maize shoots were mainly used in the previous vintages, this year tree resin was the main ingredient of the forest beer for the first time. The resin was obtained by hand from the spruce blockforest in the Traunstein forest district (Upper Austria).

Munich Ratebeer Group Tasting at Jonas, Garching Friday 22nd October 2021. Pours clear amber with a white head. Super soft mouthfeel, light caramel, not getting the pears or balsamic, mid sweet, good.

Bottle. Dark gold with some small chunkies. Fat caramel/butterscotch nose. A bit old, but like a Madeira; smooth. I don't notice a lot of Fichte, but a lot of caramel malt most likely.

Leicht oxidierter, wässrig harziger Beginn. Süffig, dann Noten von Ananas, vollmundig, wenig hefig-kräutrig. Steigende Säure von geringem Level aus, weiter harzig. Interessant! 9/8/9/9/11/9

Retronasal it’s bready malts, red fruit, sweet fruit (pear), light herbs. Flavor is light sweet. Medium bodied. Finish is a bit dry, resinous. OK.

Kicsi, gyorsan elillanó hab, narancsba hajló félbarna szín. Enyhe, karamelles, fűszeres illat. Kissé savanykás, fanyar, fűszeres ízvilág. Közepesen testes, enyhén szénsavas és keserű. Kellemes, frissítő ital, a magas alkoholtartalmat egyáltalán nem érezni.

Bottle. Golden-orange color with eggshell head. Aroma is forest, caramel, resinous. Taste is the same, nicely balanced. High but soft carbonation. Nicely balanced, good, but I remember the Schwarzkiefer to be more "foresty"!
