While cones, needles and fresh maize shoots were mainly used in the previous vintages, this year tree resin was the main ingredient of the forest beer for the first time. The resin was obtained by hand from the spruce blockforest in the Traunstein forest district (Upper Austria).

Clear medium amber colour, small frothy white head, diminishing quickly, light lacing. Aroma is malty, pine, light citrus, light sourish (resin?), herbal notes. Taste is medium sweet and bitter, malty, fruity, with average duration, dry, fruity and light resinous finish. Medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation, pleasant but not that special.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Max’s place. Thanks Stas. Cloudy golden. Aroma of overripe fruity esters, malt, honey, yeast, a bit of alcohol. Sweetish flavor, with honey, yeast, fruity esters, a sourish touch, and an alcoholic touch. Medium-bodied.

330 ml bottle from Ammersin Centerstore.
Amber, hazy body, with a small, fluffy, off-white head.
Aroma of grains, bread, grass, sweet apples, some berries, honey, some spices.
Taste follwos this, with some alcohol and some sweet resinous notes.
Medium, slick mouthfeel, with an average carbonation.
Finishes medium bitter, sweet, spicy, resinous, a bit hoppy.

Good, but nothing special. Apart from some resinous notes not so different to a common Bock beer. Definitely the most ordinary from the Waldbier range so far.
