On tap at Sulzberger Bierhaus Bierfestival, Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm Saturday 15th July 2023. Pours brown with a ruby glint and an off white head. Some oakiness, vanilla, toasty, oaky, soft mouthfeel, warming a little bourbon, very good but not the most refreshing beer at a beer festival 3.6

Bottled (Alex, Ville, Mats tasting). Ambery brown colour, small foamy head. Aroma is floral, some wooden, toasted, mild cedar elements along with toffee. Flavour is fruity, toffeeish, some toasted and mild raisins to it. Has aged beautifully (enjoyed in 2020, bbe in 2017)

Bottle, best before 03 aug 2023. Color: Murke orangish brown, thin off-white head. Aroma: Dark malt, light hints of Bourbon. Taste: Dark malt, malty, caramel notes, very subtle Bourbon, vanilla and oak wood. Over moderate sweet, light bitterness. Just over medium body, below average carbonation. Slightly more Bourbon, still subtle, at the finish. Ok.
Mokka, Malzbonbon, milder Whisky, sehr dezent eingebettet.

Interesting one. I realize the bottle I bought (recently) is long expired: July'17, same vintage as the low scores here. Great fine head, Ruby brown color, sweet and bready Bock aroma with a hint of spicy whisky. Flavor is mellow, even, Bock beer with just the right amount of casky vanilla, raisins, and bourbon after-tones. Maybe it needed to age 1.5 years? Really delicious. Proves that MHD is Scheiße just like the Reinheitsgebot ;-)

“1776, Rhaner Oak-aged Bock“, Flasche (33 cl) von REWE, Cham. - Tiefes Kastanienrotbraun, klar.
