Lupulus X is Buxtons experimental single-hop program. Every beer has the same recipe, only the hop changes to deliver a distinctive flavour burst.

Admiral is bred from Challenger and Northdown. Not as harsh as Target, but very mild aromatics so used in combination with other varieties for late-hopping and dry hopping. Compact cones with high Alpha levels and a subtle but pleasant fresh hoppy aroma.Provides good background bitterness for beers where large quantities of very low alpha aroma hops such as Fuggles/ Goldings are typically used, e.g. English Bitters, Pale Ales and IPA’s, or with Aramis/ Saaz in Continental or Czech Pilsners

440ml can from Vinmonopolet Nettbutikk. Shared with Finn. Fair lacing from a slowly diminishing white head, hazy gold-yellowish body. Ripe citrus nose, orange and lemon. Similar citrus taste, including orange and grapefruit. Satisfying fruity bitterness with citrus peels toards the ending. Soft on the swallow. Decent stuff. (Tromsø 07.11.2021).

Spandert av Rune. Delt med ham i WC-veien. Gusjegrågul. Uklar. Høyt kremaktig skum. Tykk spotlacing. Metallisk fruktaroma. Smaken fortsatt metallisk - med hint av fersken. Tørr - lett bitter avslutning

Can. Hazy, pale golden body under a white head. Aroma feels a bit on the gentle side, still nice with tangerine, melon, some pine and grass. Taste has pale malt with the same tangerine, melon, pine and grapefruit zest. Not so much bitterness in the start, but more pronounced after a few sips. Medium body and same aftertaste. A bit gentle, but well made and balanced hoppy pale ale. Fun to get to know this hop variety.

Can imbibed at Barrel & Horn, Bromley. Hazy gold pour with a white head. Nose is peach, tropical fruit, sweet citrus, pear. Taste is very similar to the above plus a touch of spice & bitter herbs. Fruity hoppy finish.

Can. Always happy to have more in this series. And Admiral! Very interesting. Aroma is intense lemon and orange peel, pine, lemonade, grapefruit. Light to medium body. Nice balanced IPA here as always. Loads of lemon rind here, grapefruit and light orange. Medium bitterness. Also quite a bit of pine. Lovely stuff once again.

Can picked up from Etre Gourmet webshop Grez-Doiceau Belgium and consumed at home Tuesday 13th July 2021 listening to Steve Lamaqs Evening Session on 6 Music and we had The Best Swedish Meatballs for tea (apparently!). It is Beer School with Nat tonight, level 2, session 2. Much like the previous Buxton beer this pours a hazy yellowy colour with a white head. Also soft on the palate, creamy textured, however this is where things start to differ as their is far less distinction in terms of a flavour profile here, however it is still very good. I get some lemony sherbet, light grapefruit touches, a little grassiness and to add a little exotic edge perhaps a dab of summer stone fruits with apricot primarily. Good, in fact very good. Buxton are doing a very interesting job with this series and with a style that usually annoys me a little.

440ml Can - Golden/light orange with a white head. Orange peel, herbs, lemon zest and some hints of grapefruit juice in the aroma. Herbal and hoppy taste with notes of orange, lemon and grass, with some notes of grapefruit juice in the finish. A great showcase for Admiral which is too often overlooked as just being a decent hop for bittering.

Can at home in Hackney - sourced from HOTM. Pours almost clear gold with a creamy, white head. Lightly sweet, lean, nice piney hops, some lemon rind, pale bread, slight minerality. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Nicely bitter finish, more piney bitterness, nips of grass and pithy citrus. Super drinkable stuff.
