Lupulus X is Buxtons experimental single-hop program. Every beer has the same recipe, only the hop changes to deliver a distinctive flavour burst.

Admiral is bred from Challenger and Northdown. Not as harsh as Target, but very mild aromatics so used in combination with other varieties for late-hopping and dry hopping. Compact cones with high Alpha levels and a subtle but pleasant fresh hoppy aroma.Provides good background bitterness for beers where large quantities of very low alpha aroma hops such as Fuggles/ Goldings are typically used, e.g. English Bitters, Pale Ales and IPA’s, or with Aramis/ Saaz in Continental or Czech Pilsners

Can at home, from HOTM online, 18/06/21. Moderately hazed golden orange with a decent white cap. Nose is orange squash, grass, light pine, melon, bread dough, papaya. Taste comprises crisp malts, orange zest, light chalky minerals, melon, grapefruit, grass, light pine tickle. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close spiked with balanced grassy come lightly juiced up hop bitterness. Solid fresh and clean drinking IPA.

Can. Hazy gold beer, just a smattering of white bubbles for a head, which is weird because the palate has a good minerally crisp bite. Malts are smooth and provide a modest but right level of sweetness for this brew. Can't recall the last time I had Admiral solo, if ever, probably was in a cask bitter. Crisp pine gives way to bright clean yellow grapefruit, not acid at all, but with a nice edge of grapefruit bitterness. Undertone of grapefruit peel. Touch of marmalade on the crisp finish, just a whisper really. Grapefruit bitter linger. Crisp and properly hoppy and very refreshing. British hops rock, when used properly...

Can. Buxton online shop. Hazed pale gold with a nicely messy, fairly thick, bright white foam. Nose has fresh sliced oranges. Bit of a sorbet thing from the sweet grain. Notes of cut grass and apricot kernel. Taste has a light sweetness with a moderate to full, pithy bitterness. Smooth mouthfeel. A little dry and bitter. Foamy carbonation. Bitterness properly kicks in on the finish. Out of the ordinary and very tasty.
