A rich, sweet stout with classic malt characteristics with a bold, unique twist. This beer tastes like you crammed a fat stack of blueberry pancakes into a pint glass and smothered it with maple syrup. Channel your inner lumberjack, because it’s in for a real treat.

Pours very dark brown from the bottle and leaves an attractive tan head. Aroma is exactly what the bottle says: maple and blueberry syrup mixed together. Frankly, drinking this concoction, I feel like I’m in an IHOP. The taste follows through - lots and lots of maple and blueberry syrup. Where are the pancakes, anyway? Overall very sweet with a body to the light side of medium. Interesting at first with a wonderful intensity of flavor. Drink further. Then the sinking feeling that this is a one trick beer. More maple syrup. More IHOP blueberry syrup. The finish is sweet, naturally, with the blueberry prevailing. Midway through the bottle I start to wonder if I really like this beer. The answer is yes, BUT... Too monotone on its own. Try pairing with foods on the bitter side to offset the sweetness.

Sampled from bottle @ ChrisO’s after GBBF Day 1. Dark brown color with a slight dark red hue, average sized beige head. Aroma is huge liquorice and sweet candy. Tastes like (Dutch) "autodrop", en dan specifiek die met half drop en half rood snoepje of hoe dat ook heet. Malt based but with quite some sweet maple syrup and sweet candy flavors in there. A bit odd perhaps but quite nice.

Bottle from the Craft Beer Advent Calendar
Black color with small brown head. Mild aroma of sour jam and Indian spice shop. Good body strength; dark malts without negative roastiness, a bit of sour berries, cherries, Black Forest, and biscuity sweetness.
Very weird, I couldn’t drink too much of it, but it’s not bad.

Pour is a black with an small tan head. Aroma is spot on. Just like blueberry pancakes with a dollop of maple syrup. Flavor is a bit disappointing with weaker flavor of the blueberries and maple. This has a way too thin mouth feel for the look of the beer. Finish is sweet with some blueberry left on the tongue. No real malt base lets this one down a bit. A chewier malt base and you might have something here. Still the aroma takes me back to better days of Sundays with blueberry pancakes hot off the griddle.

Dark brown color with beige head. Blueberries, no maltiness behind. Taste the same. A nice dessert beer, but nothing I’d go for.

From bottle at BKL München 2016.
Black body, with a medium, creamy, lacing, light brown head.
Aroma of sweet blueberries, chocolate, syrup, cocoa, some coffee.
Tastes of cocoa, coffee, sweet blueberries, maple syrup, chocolate, some liquorice.
Medium, slick mouthfeel, with an average carbonation.
Finishes smooth, medium roasty, medium dry, with cocoa, coffee, wood, blueberries.
Tasty. One of the best blueberry beers I’ve had so far, with lovely, distinctive, sweet blueberry notes, balanced by smooth, dry, dark malts. I’m surprised this doesn’t get higher ratings, really smooth, quaffable stuff.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, bottled on 2/4/2016. Pours nearly opaque dark brown/black color with a 1-2 finger dense tan head with good retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of big blueberry, caramel, maple syrup, toffee, chocolate, cocoa, toast, dark bread, light smoke/herbal, and roast/toasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of blueberry, maple syrup, and dark/roast/bready malt notes; with good strength. Taste of big blueberry, caramel, maple syrup, toffee, chocolate, cocoa, toast, dark bread, light smoke/herbal, and roast/toasted earthiness. Light-moderate herbal/roast bitterness and slight fruit tartness on the finish; with lingering notes of blueberry, caramel, maple syrup, toffee, chocolate, cocoa, toast, dark bread, light smoke/herbal, and roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of blueberry, maple syrup, and dark/roast/bready malt flavors; with a great roasted bitter/sweet balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light dryness from roasted bitterness as well. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy, and fairly bready/chalky balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very nice fruited stout style! All around good complexity, robustness, and balance of blueberry, maple syrup, and dark/roast/bready malt flavors; and very smooth and easy to drink. This definitely tasted like blueberry pancakes with balanced stout flavors. A very enjoyable offering.
