An easy drinking Yuletide ale. Reddish in colour, this beer tastes of festive spice and dried fruits. Perfect next to a roaring fire.

[Cask at The Old Manor (JDW), Bracknell.] A reddish chestnut pour with a compact caramel coloured head; caramel aroma; earthy malt taste, quite sweet; and a caramel biscuit finish. Rather good.

Cask at Bungalows & Bears, Sheffield. Ruby and only slightly translucent with a small white head. Cherry/nutmeg aroma. Taste is sweet but doesn’t really go anywhere. Thinnish body. Cinnamon and stone fruit in the aftertaste. Below the standard of what this brewery can do.

Cask at the Duck in the Pond, Harrow Weald. Amber-brown with a middling off-white head. Treacle up front followed by chocolate, toffee, oak and a little pepper and red wine. A dry leaf bitterness in the finish. The more I drank, the more the wood and treacle came through, resulting in a bittersweet ale with a dry finish. Good full body and more suitable for the season than most UK Christmas beers. I like it.
