Inspired by old aged beers of yesteryear, Big Buck is a classic barrel aged barley wine, made from heritage Chevalier Malt and EKG hops that were aged in 2nd use wine and bourbon barrels for 10 months!

Coolshipping on grape overnight has evolved this from a classic beer into something even more complex and intriguing, featuring aromas of sweet marmalade and floral with hints of apple brandy and oak.

A beer born to see out those cold winter months.

Panda at home, thanks to Kenneth, 05/03/24. Hazed amber to marmalade orange with a light beige cap that thins to a swirl. Nose is earthy fruit rinds, toffee, herb, dusty hops, grains, caramel, biscuit, vinous notes. Taste comprises tangy fruit rinds, dry rot, vinous, hedgerow, light yeast floaties, biscuit, dates, raisins, earthy, fruit tang. Medium bodied with bite, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a light kiss of alcohol and tangy fruit edge. It's an okay sipper, comes over more sour than barley wine so if you're expecting the latter ... scroll past. Doesn't deserve a 3.24 average (before I stuck my rate in) and does have some complexity about it .... but it's not what most folks would expect from Life.

A light haze on this amber beer, good pale tan head. Palate is pretty light for the style, there is a mild dryness, and decent fine carbonation. Airy malts, a mild creamy sweetness. Quite a red wine barrel vibe, slightly tart, decent vanilla oak. Airy and fairly dry finish. A nice brew, but nothing here really says barleywine. No malt depth at all, just a nice, very slightly tart, barrel aged beer.

Bottle online from the brewery. Pours light hazed orange with a decent beige cap. Aromas: malt, apples, honey, sherry. Taste: light to moderate sweet & bitter, malt, apples, light vinous, tangy, funky hints. Medium body with foamy carbonation. A slow gusher on opening, no idea if this was infected but it was certainly an interesting take on a barleywine

Bottle. Color: Hazy amber, off-white head. Gusher, luckily I was warned. Aroma: Malty, red wine, caramel hints. Taste: Red wine is overwhelming the Barley Wine. Vinuous, light vinuous tartness, malty, some caramel malt, some oak and some dried yellow fruit. Over medium body, just below average carbonation. Light sweet and bitter, a little more bitterness at the dry and Brett-ish finish. Don't get much from the Bourbon BA. Not one of the best Wild Beers and wondering whether this beer was meant to be like this or is infected, but drinkable and ok overall.

Bottle. Wild Beer online. Noisy amber pour. Decent white foam. Nose has rubber and burnt plastic. Some apple pomace. Taste is mostly bitter, with a hint of sweetness. Pretty thin mouthfeel with high carbonation. Some tart bitterness to finish. A fairly substantial miss.

Thin beige head on a cloudy vivid amber coloured body. White wine & drain cleaner aroma. Medium bodied, dry, sharp & clean. White wine, bitter, pithy, grape & lightly hopped tastes. Poor.

Bottle from the brewery online shop. Pours just clear yellow gold with a thin white head. Aromas of light honey and fino sherry. Taste is surprisingly thin. Keeps the sherry vibe though. Low carbonation. Interesting.

hazy dark orange to amber colour, medium sized creamy beige-ish ecru head; aroma of citric acid, acetic acid, some acetone, unripe grape, earhty-wine cellary and some dried fruity (apricot and pear) notes; taste has the same notes as can be felt in the aroma with some hoppy bittery, as well as alcoholic notes; quite strange...and for sure, not really a barley wine but rather a (high ABV) wild ale

330ml bottle from Vinmonopolet Langnes. Shared with Finn. Clingy lacing from an off-white head, next-to- clear amber body. Promising smell of dried fruits and oak. Dried fruity tartness to the flavour profile, moments of ripe apples and wood. Drying end with fruity tartness lingering on. Quite alright, sipper qualities. (Tromsø 29.01.2022).
