Two Roads own brewing czar, Phil Markowski, has taken a traditional Russian Imperial Stout and added a touch of "Amerika" to create a version that's sure to please!

This most unorthodox Russian Imperial Stout is brewed with malted rye and aggressively hopped with four different Pacific Northwest varieties to create a depth of character that's unmistakable.

Full-bodied with notes of rye, treacle, chocolate and espresso that join together to create a crescendo of flavor. You’ll want to do an unabashed Kalinka after just one taste!

Bottle@Rex/Rådhuskällaren, Umeå. Pitch black colour with a mediumsized white foamy head. Aroma is chocolate, some liquorice, mild alcohol with some slight herbal tones. Flavour is chocolate, liquorice, mild syrup, some roasted tones with a bit of tartish ryelike elements and some dried fruits. Silky smooth.

650ml bottle. Jet black colour with small to average, frothy to creamy, moderately lasting, minimally lacing, beige to tan head. Roasty, spicy, dark malty aroma, intense hoppy counterpart, notes of liquorice, treacle. dark chocolate, grassy hop, a touch of green onion, subtle hints of dark caramel, some rye spiciness. Taste is grassy, slightly piney and resinous, bitter hoppy, roasty and slightly spicy, dark malty, notes of liquorice, hints of dark caramel, some rye spciness, grass, hay. Slightly oily texture, minimally pungent palate. Agressively hopped indeed, Black IPA echoes, nice rye induced spicy touch, but not overly complex overall.

Bottle pour into tulip glass from Greg & Janes Beer and Wine. Appearance is opaque black with nice sparkle at the edge of the glass, finger-width brown head with fair retention and no lacing. Aroma is roasted malt, chocolate, dark fruit, mild alcohol. Taste is roasted malt, dark fruit, treacle, mild alcohol. Palate is light-to-medium bodied with thin, fluffy texture, average carbonation, alcohol warmth/burn and late rye spiciness, and dry more-bitter-than-sweet finish. Overall, not quite as much complexity in the aroma and flavor as advertised but decent nonetheless. A little thin.

Refrigerated 12 oz. brown bottle poured into a snifter. Black with small light brown head. Aroma is cocoa, medium body, medium carbonation, and some lacing. Taste is really dry cocoa, soy sauce, rye, and some anise. Not my kind of impy stout.

12 ounce bottle. Translucent black color topped by a large frothy tan head. Faint roasted malt nose. Subtle roasted malt flavor hints at chocolate and licorice. Chewy and sticky. Hard to believe this is nearly 11% ABV, as it hides the alcohol well.
