We take our year-round production Big Eye IPA and infuse fresh skinned, sliced ginger root into the beer post fermentation. The spicy Centennial hops used in Big Eye go very well with the spicy taste and aromatics from the fresh ginger root. The solid malt backbone of Big Eye also lends itself well to ginger, almost adding a candied component as it blends across your palate.

From tap. Pours hazy orange with a small white head. Aroma is floral ginger. Soapy. Mild sharp ginger bite. Dry. Ginger. Citrusy. Soapy. Herbal and slight soapy far finish. Not for me.

Draft at Ballast Point. Orange golden pour. Aroma has ginger spice, pine and citrus. Taste of soft ginger, pine, malt and grapefruit. Tasty, ginger works well here.

22oz bomber pours up with a clear deep gold body that has copper hues and supports a nice looking tan head of foam. The aroma offers up grapefruit, danky spicy onions, a dash of pineapple and then faint soft ginger spice in the background. The taste begins with a pleasing rush of juicy grapefruit, bitter grapefruit and a spicy onion like hoppiness. It then quickly runs into a fairly firm ginger sensation taking this to midway. Into the finish the spicy onion blends with a modest degree of juicy pineapple. There’s a solid level of ginger in here (well, not really in the aroma) and I thought it was going to be too much. It seems it isn’t or after 10oz my palate adjusted.

Sampled on draft at Hough’s this beer poured a bright golden color with a large foamy yellow-white head that lingered and left incredible lacing. The aroma was bitter, chalky and had citrus and perfume notes. The flavor was bitter, chalky, ginger powder, perfume and harsh fruity hops. Long finish. Medium body. Meh.

$4.99 bomber from Wine Warehouse. Pours slightly hazy golden-amber with a giant beige-yellow head. Smell is ginger, dust, citrus, caramel. Taste is ginger, citrus, dust, caramel, licorice. I don’t love it, but it’s interesting.

Bomber from Beer Run. Clear amber, large foamy off-white head, good retention. Aroma of ginger, pale malt, mild tea and mint. The taste is strong ginger, pale crackery malt. Thin bodied. Basically ginger juice.

This was poured into a becher pint glass.
The appearance was a mild hazy burnt amber color with a one finger white to off white rocky foamy head that took its time to dissipate. Nice show! Semi-thick foamy lacing appeared all around the glass.
The smell had the normal qualities of Big eye (bitter citrus to piney to that light underscore of caramel malt) and then spiced up with ginger. Smells authentic.
The taste was spicy - fully through the ginger and on into the hops, taking them to the same spicy level. Bitterness shows up just a bit. Dry semi-spicy aftertaste with a quick finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium in body with a decent sessionable feel to it as the ginger doesn’t hit too hard and nor does it become a palate wrecker too much.
Overall, Ballast Point did everything they wanted to with this one. That’s definitely real \"ginger\" they added. I like it for the most part, but it does come across pretty dry.

Pours a hazy, copper-gold with mid-sized, tan/off-white head. Aroma of pine hops, some citrus, a hint of ginger. Flavor is crisp, with a big jab of ginger right from the get-go, followed by lots of citrus and hop bite. Ginger is also quite prevalent in the finish/aftertaste as well. This is one of the few flavor additions that really enhances the original beer. Pretty tasty.
