Down in Kentucky and across the pond in Scotland, distillers who age their whiskeys for many years refer to the evaporation of the spirits from their barrels as “The Angel’s Share.” We couldn’t agree more. Our Angel’s Share is a barrel aged burgundy colored ale infused with copious amounts of dark caramel malt to emphasize the vanilla and oak flavors found in freshly emptied brandy barrels. Each batch spends no less than 6 months aging in the oak.

2008 enjoyed in 2017. Thanks ClarkVV. very dark brown tan. almost letting nothing through. cork came out easily. no pop. no head formed on the pour. Smells great. light caramel toffeee butterscotch, brown sugar. lots of tobacco. flavor also has a lot of tobacco / cigar. very flat. zero carb, has a cane syrup, sarsaparilla, pepper, cognac and oranges. tasty. wish it was carbed.

Men man blir ändå besviken.

2011 vintage with the orange label purchased at Julio’s Liquors God knows when. Neck reads 2010 Brandy. Meant to get to this sooner, now is the right time. (Thank god this isn’t the infected vintage)Nose shows me deep dark fruit, vanilla and oak. Brandy is mild at this point

Taste is again heavy on the dark fruits (raisin, plum, dates) some sticky sweet caramel with hints of vanilla. The finish shows oak. Mouthfeel is nearly full with carbonation on the lower side. Wow... Really wow. It is like liquid Brandy candy. This stands the test of time. I had the bourbon barrel on draft and this is just as impressive.

Bottle from Erzbierschof Zurich, 2011 vintage with 2010 shoulder print. Pours clear dark brown with almost no head. Intense brandy barrel indeed. Vanilla, wood, oak, some booze. Works well together though. Full and but not heavy body with almost no carbonation. Almost no bitterness, but sweet, almost a bit sticky, and some sourness. From the age maybe? Anyway, the booze is warming nicely as well done barley wines often do. Rather short palate, but it works. Good beer.
