Down in Kentucky and across the pond in Scotland, distillers who age their whiskeys for many years refer to the evaporation of the spirits from their barrels as “The Angel’s Share.” We couldn’t agree more. Our Angel’s Share is a barrel aged burgundy colored ale infused with copious amounts of dark caramel malt to emphasize the vanilla and oak flavors found in freshly emptied brandy barrels. Each batch spends no less than 6 months aging in the oak.

(6/29/08) Bottle sample at RBESG08 grand tasting in Plzen. Dark brown with a beige head. Aroma is quite malty with lots of flowery, slightly citric tones and light roastiness. Malty caramelly flavor with light roasted notes, hints of coffee and bitter hoppiness in the finish as well as notes of alcohol. Medium to full-bodied.

Bottled. Hazy redbrown color, short head. Aroma of raisin, port wine, liquor, very fruity, madeira. Porty taste, alcoholic, raisin, very full. Strong, but balanced. Not an easy drinker, but still I would love to drink this more.

Dark nut brown color, small tan head. Aroma of vanilla, fruits and whiskey. Whiskey, vanilla, licorice ... some CO2 in the finish. Very liquerish and warming. Lovely, balanced, delicious beer. Beer for slow drinking.

Bottled. Deep ambery colour, small beigeish brown head. Aroma is roasted malts, some nice wooden and raisiny notes as well as vanilla and fruits. Some slight alcoholic sweetness too. Flavour is very much the same, and in a a perfect balance. As it got a bit warmer also licorice and some slight alcoholic burning notes came through.

Bottle at the RBESG08 Grand Tasting. Dark brown. Lasting beige head. You know when you have a highly rated beer, that you start a little sceptically at it, but by the end this won me over and I was searching for any spare glasses of it by the end. Thick malty rich cake aroma, rather a good beer with really good balance for a strong beer. It’s nice. Good alcoholic, euphoric effect. Hops on finish are balancing to the sweetness. Cool.

2010 vintage, courtesy of luttonm (huge thanks Matt! Poured a murky dark brown body. Bourbon, raisins, full maltiness, quite heavy too, light butter notes. Bourbon, raisins and alcohol in the taste too, light alcohol ,slightly warming - barrel aging did well for this, light chocolate, smokey notes, tobacco, nice and thick, very very light soy sauce, a touch sharp. Make what you wish of my stream of consciousness. It was definitely a great beer. 8/4/8/4/17. Gonna keep it in between.
RBESG08 grand tasting. Poured a dark red brown body with a small tan head. Pungent yoghurty malty nose, notes of smoke and whiskey. Complex malty taste. Coffee, yoghurt, alcohol (whiskey?). Still, not the best beer I’ve ever had. 8/3/8/4/16

Enjoyed at the Stone World Bistro. 2007 11.5% 750mL bottle. Pours with a small, thick, light brown head that covers a murky, extremely dark brown body. Not much lacing left from the head, but just a small ring throughout. Aroma is extremely complex with brandy, sweet fruits, figs, dates, madeira, vanilla, molasses, and licorice. Incredibly long duration from each sip (30+ seconds of intense flavor). Strong oak presence towards the finish, warming as well. Candied, pitted fruit elements upfront, and a spicy middle than blends into the brandy oak finish. Creamy mouthfeel. A great beer, I am glad I got to drink some.
2006 bottle consumed 5/14/11. Still doing amazingly well. Good carbonation. Complex. Minimal oxidation. Awesome.
