Down in Kentucky and across the pond in Scotland, distillers who age their whiskeys for many years refer to the evaporation of the spirits from their barrels as “The Angel’s Share.” We couldn’t agree more. Our Angel’s Share is a barrel aged burgundy colored ale infused with copious amounts of dark caramel malt to emphasize the vanilla and oak flavors found in freshly emptied brandy barrels. Each batch spends no less than 6 months aging in the oak.

(Bottle, 2010 vintage) Dark brown colour, with a hint of ruby when seen through light. Almost flat, with just a few quickly disappearing bubbles. Malty, fruity, vinous nose with notes of caramel, oak wood, dried fruit, raisins, vanilla, port wine and a touch of brandy. Malty, fruity taste with caramel, dried fruit, raisins in brandy, vanilla, oak wood, port wine and a vinous finish with fiery alcohol and a touch of tannin acidity. Full body, despite the lack of carbonation, it’s actually quite massive. Fairly sweet, with fiery alcohol in the finish. Low bitterness. Different, but quite lovely. (Rating # 6000)

Ins Glas ergießt sich ein rötlichoranges Bier mit geringer Schaumkrone. Geruch intensiv süß malzig, Karamell, holzig, alkoholisch. Geschmack angenehm malzig fruchtig, wärmend, Karamell, alkoholisch.

Color oscuro casi negro turbio con espuma beige oscuro. Sabores intensos maltas tostadas con dulces de frutas pasas, maderas y toques de licores bourbon bastante apreciables. Notas especiadas, vainillas y maderas empapadas. Cuerpo medio a intenso con buena sensación alcohólica y licorosa desde el principio. Cierta densidad, fina y espumosa. Bastante buena para repetir sin duda alguna............................ . Botella de 37.5 cl en el lúpulo, en el momento el 12-02-2014. Color negro con reflejos cobrizos oscuros y espuma beige poco persistente. Cuerpo intenso con gran sensación alcohólica. Sabores bastantes dulces con toques de maderas al final algo secos y ligeramente amargos. Alucinante barley wine de 12.5 vol. Muy buena sin duda alguna.

From a 375 cl bottle shared at home on Christmas eve. Pours black with a tan head. Aroma of brandy Flavors of plum, oak, vanilla and caramel. Soft and viscous mouthfeel. Boozy finish.

Complex aroma of dried fruits, dates, prunes, cigar box etc. Similarly complex taste that keep developing in the mouth. Port and fine sherry. Perhaps with a hint of alcohol crudeness.

Fra flaske på Cardinaltreff sep-13, etter det offisielle programmet ("fra gribbebordet": en lekkerbisken for de som er begeistret for store mengder karamell og vanillje. Flytende godteri, og sånn sett en passende avslutning på kvelden. Må prøves i mer objektiv tilstand.

Cask at Great British Beer Festival 2013. Poured a dark ruby colour with a medium, dense beige head. Aroma of caramel, alcohol soaked dark fruits and molasses. Flavours of raisons, dates, peppery spice and vanilla. Leaves with burnt sugar, brandy, hop resin and oak.

Bottle - 2009, thanks bul11zeye. Opened with some trepidation. Flat as a board, of course. Pour is murky mahogany, no head, no lacing. Aroma is.... NOT infected. Whew. caramel, toffee, dried fruits, A&J brandy, vanilla. Medium sweet, little bitterness, perhaps just a faint note of tartness, but that may be my imagination. Full body, creamy mouthfeel. Brandy burn. Minimal astringence. Somewhat oxidized. Good, not great, BA BW.

2010 vintage on tap at the Brick Store Sweet Sixteen party. The aroma is intense sour cherries, molasses, vanilla, and caramel. The flavor is very sweet, with a significant sourness through the finish. Medium body, acidic, and thin. Overall, this is an interestingly sour beer. The initial aroma is a little unexpected, but it grows on you.
