Sampled @ the Elsenwang brewpub. Big thanks to Helena and Hübert for driving us here! Thick-set, creamy, fluffy head over almost black beer. Nutty, ashy, bit roast; sweet dried fruit, overripe bananapeel. Liquorice, ashes, sweet roast, and finally some (C) hops too. Pretty well bodied, viscous but nowhere cloying, whilst some of the other steroid Gusswerk brews are a bit. Despite the strength, quite drinkable!

Bottled (2015 vintage). Ruby red colour, small off-white head. Aroma is earthy, some fruity, raisins and mild toffee. Flavour is raisins, alcohol, zest and mild alcohol. very nicely balanced flavour. 2013 was useless in most ways.

dark Brown colour, moderate sized dense, creamy yellowish-beige-ish head; aroma of dried plum and cherries, some dark chocolate, coffee, slight anise, herbal medicinal and alcoholic notes; taste is basically the same with definite hoppy bitterness and intensive alcoholic spiciness; not bad

Bottle sample at a tasting at Lior D’s place. Thanks zvsn. Hazy deep reddish amber. Aroma of malt, caramel, cookies, fruitiness. Sweet flavor with malt, caramel, fruitiness, light sourish note, cookie note, and a faint bitterish note. Medium-bodied, rounded. Good, alcohol is well-concealed.

500ml bottle. Opaque, darkest brown colour with thin bubbly, beige layer. Malty aroma, notes of chocolate sauce, nuts, nougat, marzipan, some treacle, bitter fruity interludes of orange zest and grapefruit. Taste is minimally alcoholic, sweet malty, slightly bitter, notes of almond, marzipan, hints of red berry jam, some milk chocolate, treacle; viscous texture, smooth and soft palate. Harmonious, balanced, rich and manifold - but I’ve simply no need for this kind of beer.

Vertical: 2013 & 2015
Aroma has sweet fruit candy tones, caramel and toffee. Flavour has sweet toffee candy, some caramel, minerals and woody notes. Also some sweet berry juice. A pleasant slow sipper. 2013 is clearly worse; it has even some moldy notes.

500ml bottle @ ISKTR, 2013 vintage
Pours dark brown with a tiny head. Aroma of syrup, berries, toffee, vinous notes and caramel. Taste is sweet, malty and earthy with some syrup, berries, toffee and caramel. Finish is sweetish, earthy and malty with some syrup and toffee. Heavy and earthy. 2015 vintage has much more hops and grassy notes.
