Cherry Lambic Sour Ale

Winner of a gold medal at the 2018 Great American Beer Festival, Transatlantique Kriek begins its life in oaken vessels of Gert Christiaens’ Oud Beersel, a 130-year-old lambic brewery in the Zenne valley of Belgium – home of authentic Lambic beer. After time spent aging in wood, Oud Beersel’s lambic is blended with tart Polish cherries and shipped across the Atlantic to New Belgium. In concert with Oud Beersel’s cherry lambic, or Kriek, we blend an equal portion of golden sour ale matured for 1 – 3 years in our oak vessels called foeders. 50% Sour Golden Ale blended with 50% Traditional Cherry Lambic Ale leads to an intense cherry nose, a sour flash across the palate and a refreshing, mouthwatering finish.

Thank you! 750 ml. bottle sampled @ “Ik stap op tram 4...” tasting. Bright red, little head. Nsoe is nice bright cherry, low sweet, faint cherry syrup, sweet & sour lacto style. Just as wit the 2015 version taste falls empty and flat for me, bland low iron, vague sweet cherry, soap, iron, low syrup but just empty & bland, not a big fan.

Purplish colour, hazy, light purple head. Cherry jam, some light barrel, are the focus of the aroma. Tart, bit yoghurty and a touch of woody dryness. Lots of cherry, on the palate it is again quite jammy. Finishes sweet-tart, again the cherry is fairly strong and a bit candyish. Solid.

(Draught at Man in the Moon, Stockholm, 2 Sep 2017) Ruby red colour with frothy, off-white/pinkish head. Fruity, sourish nose with cherries, almonds and cranberries. Fruity, tart taste with notes of cherries, cranberries, pomegranate and a balanced tartness in a dry finish. Almost full body, quite dry. Really tasty, with lots of fruit character and a fresh tartness. Very nice.

Bottle at SBWF. Clear deep red colour, small pinky head. Tart cherryish aroma. Light-bodied to medium-bodied. Tart, cherry flavour. Very clean but in a good way. Mouthpuckering finish.

At tour de geuze afterparty. Pours pinkish red, small white head. Smell has some cherries. Taste is cherrie, very, very mild sourness. Not as hollow as the one I had before, but still not great to me.

From the backlog. Dark red. No head. Tart, little butryic. Lactic, butyric, vomitous, but there’s some fruit way in the back. Nevertheless, this is overwhelming and I might have to just walk away from it.
